What heatsink/fan do you use on your Thunderbird/Duron?

Well?

Also, post overclocking results with the heatsink...

Oh, and is it loud or quiet? :)

If you can't tell from my last two threads, I'm considering a Tbird/KT133A set up. ;)

AMD Thunderbird 1.0GHz @ 1.224GHz using a GlobalWin FOP-38.

Loud mofo, but like NeonFlak I'm used to it.

Ugh, FOP38 or any other HS/FAN with a delta 38cfm fan is not even in contention for me. :disgust:

Hehehe...I have a socket370 gorb now, so I have a pretty quiet system...

I second the vote on the Alpha PAL6035. I tried a FOP38 and my ears are still ringing. If you want Quiet tho go with a Chrome Orb.

On my Epox 8KTA3/T-Bird 1.0G@1396 the FOP ran loaded at 38C, The Alpha was 39C and the Chrome Orb was 44C. (a Cooler Master hit 50C and scared me) There are some real advantages to heat dissipation using the Alpha tho as it Sucks rather than Blows and therefore exhausts it's heated air directly into the exhaust stream of the rear mounted fan on an Enlight 7237 (and an Antec KS282 as well). The FOP blows it's hot air back onto the chipset (and back into the case) which is not the best idea.

Tbird 850@1Ghz w/ Kanie Hedgehog
This tbird is a green core and a really stubborn chip when overclocking. I think I'll pick up a 1.2 soon and see how far I can go.

Duron 600@1Ghz w/ modified PEP66 FC-PGA(lapped off the bevel)

Alpha P7125 with Dual 26CFM YSTech fans (yeah I cheated, mines SlotA not SocketA). It's not quiet as my friend's chrome orb but it's still not as loud as those 38cfm deltas.

I'd probably get the FOP32 or Alpha PAL6035 with the 26CFM YSTech. They aren't that obscenely loud.

Wolfman35,

Was the c-orb stable at 1396? That would mean a core temp around 50-60C over ambient. THe 5C difference between it and alpha is probably 1/4th of core temp difference.

Do you think the new MSI K7T-Turbo-R KT133A will have the same requirement as it precessor since it basically the same board?

Does though HS and HSF fit the new msi board?

Mike, Stable is kind of a time relative concept. The Orb hit 44C about 2 minutes into a UT Demo with Prime95 running. Yes it was stable at that point but I don't think it would have been for very much longer. It hit 40C just at POST so I knew it was marginal at that level. I have a Duron 600@950 with an Orb (K7T Pro2) that runs a cool 34C loaded tho so there is a place for the Orb. It's just not on a 133 FSB T-Bird.

Edit: Ambient in my 7237 w/front intake and rear exhaust fans is ~28C in a 23C room.

Wolfman35, you have the PAL6035 blowing away from the heatsink??? That doesn't sound right...

I have a PAL6035 on an 850t-bird@1000 running 36C. Case temp stays at 26C, 7237, two case fans, 300W PS.

It's much noiser than my old dual fan Globalwin SlotA fan, and a single Socketed Vantec HSF, but that wasn't very efficient.
