What Heat Sink/Fan Combo should I get?

Hi, I'm looking to conservatively overclock an Athlon 1600XP on an Asus A7V266-E. What's the best heat sink/fan combo in terms of performance without being too loud in the $50 or less range? I was thinking Thermalright SK-6, but I was told it was probably much louder than I wanted. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah, i definitely second the Sk-6

The 60mm delta fan it usually comes with IS pretty loud, but you could get the HSF w/out the fan and simply buy a nice 80mm sunon fan. It will mount diagonally on the sk-6 and be MUCH quieter

Less than $50.00...sk-6 seems the best choice. It comes w/ the 60mm 7K delta screamer. Loud but get the job done.

So basically it's good as a heat sink, but I should just get a better fan? How about the Ys Tech one? Is that a good one?

Get the SK-6 with 30cfm delta which is not a screamer by any means, but provides enough cooling to oc my XP 1600 to 1612 MHz and be 37*C idle and 44*C full load (prime95 or folding@home).

The 27-33 CFM range of ys-tech fan seems decent & quite. Should look into it.

Alpha 8045 with the manually adjustable Enermax fan. You decide on the speed and noise. I run the control out the back of my case and change it as I feel the need.

newegg has the fan for $8
Enermax

and the 8045 for $35
Alpha

hey all,

How bout this "Thermal Integration's Dr. Thermal TI-V77L" ive read some reviews on it and it seems to have the best cooling to noise ratio. i had the sk6 on my 1.4 tbird..it was loud as hell..couldnt even sleep with it on (comps in my bedroom) but i orderd the same setup as Karaethon1 (Athlon 1600XP on an Asus A7V266-E) from newegg along with the TITI V77L. i figure the xp runs alot cooler anyway, and i want BEST combo of cooling and quietness!

I second the SK-6..I have only a 26 CFM fan blowing on it, and it keeps my 1.1G tbird under 40 degrees under full load using prime95...it should be awesome if you put a big boy delta on it.

Does the PAL8045 fit your motherboard? If so, check it out at SVcompucycle. They were running a special on it last I checked, $30 for one of the best heatsinks out there. They are also selling cheap and good fans to go along with the HS.

those are some decent memory scores.im getting 912,930 on a 152 buss with memory on turbo.also getting 8400 3dmark2001. seems my epox mb dont like buss over 142.:( will be doing the multiplier fix so i can see what the real limits of the chip are. :)

Hey

Yeah..well, the temps i posted were with the case off (forgot that makes a big diff) put the case on and lock up city! had to back down to a 145fsb to get it stable, but temps are realy high..so i guess im sending this hsf back to newegg and getting another sk6. :( so it seems the limiting factor for me to hit 1.6 is the heat. so if your gonna oc Karae..get the sk6.

Does anyone know if the Alpha PAL8045 heat sink fits on an Epox 8k7a mainboard? I read it does but wanted to be sure. I couldn't find the holes on the 8k7a that you use to mount the 8045 but it's hard to see because it's in a computer now.
