What headphones do you use with your PC?

Sennheiser PC166 for gaming / voice chat. Sennheiser HD555 for gaming / audio. I like the sound from the HD555's but not that great for work because they are open air.

I've been thinking about picking up some closed headphones. Either Beyerdynamic DT 770 or Audio Technica ATH-A700

Grado SR225s, plugged into a ~2001 vintage JVC receiver (not sure of the exact age, it was a freebie from work). Damn, these cans rock. 😀

BD DT770... I guess everyone got in on the sweet Amazon deal

It's only used late night when I can't run my home theatre.

AKG K242HD

They sound good but sometimes I wish I would have gotten the Sennheiser HD 280 Pros for better isolation because the AKGs let too much noise in. If the GF is watching TV I have to crank the volume up to try and drown it out.

I paid like $270 for mine at Guitar Center. Not the best deal, but at the time I was flush with cash and didnt care. How much did you get yours for?

BTW. I love my dt770's. I love the long cord too.

It was 108 back in Oct 08. I think it was in hot deals and atot just swarmed in and bought quite a few I believe.

Optical out from my motherboard -> Keces DA-131 DAC -> Shanling PH-100 -> AKG K701's

Pretty much all I use for audio, I haven't had my ProMedia Ultra's hooked up in a year.

Viper GTS

Same, minus receiver/amp.

Totally agree

I think those were the DT770 250 ohms, which sound a bit different from the DT770-80.

Edit:
DT770 250 ohm = gray "fork", gray ring around the cup, gray earpads
DT770 80 ohm = all back frame, gray earpads

(the 80 ohm version are the ones that people will usually recommend that you use an amp with)

HD280 Pros. I can't think about spending much more - they spend each night on my desk at work without the benefit of being behind a locked door.

I've been thoroughly happy with them.

holy crap, you guys spend way too much on headphones. only time i use them at all is at work, or while playing games for chat.

I currently have these. I only use them for porn, so the sound quality/comfort doesn't need to be great I suppose. However I've used them at a LAN party and I would have to take them off every hour or so, on-the-ear headphones are ridiculously uncomfortable.

I used to rock these, and they sounded fantastic, while they worked. The microphone stopped functioning after about three months, the USB dongle gave my mobo/windows XP install all sorts of trouble, and I got crazy static on the headphones themselves after about 6 months of ~3h/day usage.

My experience with the Steelsound 5hv2-usb has turned me off from buying other $100+ headphones/headsets, possibly because I don't game quite as hardcore, but also because if my current headphones break, I'm out ~$15 and they've worked for 2+ years.

That said, I wouldn't mind picking up a decent headset if it'd last longer than 6months.

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro

I had originally bought them to help block out the noise of my ridiculously loud freshman dorm. They do a decent job of blocking noise, but also have very good sound quality.

It was indeed the 250 ohm version.

Don't the 80 ohms have pro as part of the name?
