Last night we went to Cheesecake Factory (always loved them) and in a chicken and shrimp pasta dish my dad spit out a 1/2 inch pointed screw. Like the ones that bolt the handles onto cooking pots. That's the only explanation we can come up with. This would've been bad news had he actually swallowed it since it's sharp. Lucky he didn't bite into the end either. The manager comp'd his meal and 3 cheesecake slices. To comp the whole thing would've been over $200.

What about you guys? It got me thinking how easy it would be for people to scam restaurants with this too. The manager was borderline skeptical and apologetic.

The still beating hearts of my enemies. It's great having a personal chef who knows what you like.

I worked at a restaurant that had these flat cast iron plates with handles that helped sear the top side of a burger before we flipped it once. It had a wooden handle with a screw on each end that over a couple years started working themselves out. We had one fall out onto the grill and luckily caught it before it got in anything, and them immediately removed all of the handles and replaced them with coat hangers. Could have easily gotten to a customer if we were busy and the grill was fully loaded.

Not bad.

In contrast, I went out to dinner with people and someone ordered an $80 specialty dish. In my scoop, there was a ball of hair like what you'd find in the filter of a drain. Think we got 5% off?

Other times, pieces of bone, and broken plastic or glass. I usually find those ones when I bite into them.

Found a nice large-gauge staple (the ones used for sealing cardboard boxes) in some takeout Chinese food from a local restaurant. I took the food back and got a "WTF is that doing in our food?" look from the owners. I had a hard time being angry as I've known the owners for 20+ years and their food (IMHO) is the best, but come on ...

If you had played your cards right you could have gotten much more than that. LOL

^ that pic makes me wanna hurl.

I reiterated how dangerous it would've been if he had swallowed it. What does playing cards right mean exactly? Threaten them with a lawsuit? They gave what they wanted to give.

Bit into some chicken wire at IHOP at least 10 years ago. They comp'ed my meal. Haven't been back to an IHOP since.

I would have had them comp the whole order and gift cards out the door. I'm sure the manager and staff took a huge sigh after you left. I'm actuality food is highly marked up. So maybe they lost 10 bucks.

I would have taken a picture and explained how this would end up on yelp if they don't comply. Lol

^ I guess I'm not all about the money. I felt what they did was apologetic. If he were injured, it'd be a different story.

Not faulting you or anything. If I'm in a good mood I would have done the same. But I'm usually not a friendly person. I figure worse case scenario would be around 2-3k (dental crown or implant). But if it had gotten to that I would have wanted more for P&S.

You sound like an ass. The compensation outlined in the OP sounds more than reasonable.

There have been people that have sued and won for less. Point is we are not going that route.
I don't know why those people sued - perhaps they sustained an injury or not, I can't say. But by arguing you're not going as far as those people when you suffered no real injury is poor justification for attempted blackmail.

Holy shit the OP is apparently not the only person that had this problem. Apparently Cheesecake factory is a nice place to use instead of Home Depot when I'm in need of bolts/screws/fasteners.

A steel ring from a tube of hamburger got cooked into my burger at a damons restaurant. I bit in to it but it didn't do any damage.

I'm glad they went out of business.
