I just ordered all the parts for a new computer. Its been almost 7 years since I've built a computer for myself, and I've been wanting to do it again for the last year. The budget I have allows for a new computer, so theres no $$ problem, its just that I always feel guilty after spending money on myself.

Does anyone else ever get this? I still cant believe I dropped a bunch of money like that.

Money to update a 7 year old computer is not money wasted. I don't know how you lasted that long if you ask me.

My wife has it worse...she gets literally sick to her stomach if she spends more than $50 on anything. Back in '96 she bought an embroidery machine for $3K and was sick for about two months...it ended up getting her jobs with two different companies, and those experiences led to her most recent job, which is her first that doesn't involve fabric.

She gets sick when I spend money, too. She didn't even like the deal I got last summer for a 36" WEGA...heck, it was in perfect condition and only cost me $100.

In other words, no, I don't have a problem spending money at all. But at least I will research choices to a fault and go for the best deal I can get...

I build a new machine about every three years. Enjoy your new system.

I feel that way all the time. After the parts arrive I get over it though. :)

You are not alone. Many really do spend too much. Buyer's remorse is extremely common, even for pretty good purchases.

I have hundreds of computer games sitting here yet to be played from years of buying that maybe I could use a bit more remorse about - an d I still buy more. It's almost as if the fun is in how they look to play and having them available, it's odd. I rationalize it as 'supporting the art of computer game making', in part.

Part of it is simply being around too much marketing. As I browse hot deals and bragain web sites you pass up hundreds of deals and then you see a big sale and...

So I sit here with many components of PC's yet to assemble and more hard drives than I can use. The 200MB 8MB one for $20 last week was particularly useless but 'too good a deal'.

On the other hand, I tend not to buy more expensive things I should, like a decent car; I had an old nasty mattress over a decade too long, an old small tv a decade too long...

I finally got a nice new Sceptre 42" LCD for $2000 last June, now it's down to $1,300 with a second HDMI port added, and the Costco return policy is calling out to take advantage...

I get the opposite reaction. I get giddy with excitement like a kid on Christmas Eve. When the shipper's truck pulls up in front of my house I can hardly contain myself. This happened for me just yesterday, and I'm still excited about it.

When I start to see the packages get to my house one by one I get so extremely excited and antsy it's awful. They should ban computer part buying, it's like drugs. Only legal.

I get it too.

It's bad because the cheap stuff I always regret because it's so disposable, and after a few days I'm always like, "why did I waste the money on that.."

But then I've also just ordered parts to overhaul my system and though I know it will be worth it in the long run, the amount I spent makes me feel kind of bad about it.

The hardest part was actually clicking the last submit button. I sit there like, "am I really going to do this?"

Buyers remorse is only for people who are insecure in their purchasing decisions. Life is too short to worry about such trivial things so move on :p

you shouldn't feel remorse if you did you research and kept a reasonable budget.

I used to get buyer's remorse a lot when I was younger. Now I just don't buy anything! Cleared that problem right up.

TELL ME ABOUT IT.

last week i spent $1200 on C2D system (i did very good research before buying it..so it wasnt something that i regret spending too much on)

but then, motherboard was dead, so now i have to sop all this crap back to other province.
this sucks, because now, i dont feel right.. i feel sick because i wasted so much money, and cant even play it today (i got my package yesterday)

i should have went with a laptop
i need laptop more than i do desktop
desktop sucks for me cause space is limited, but laptop would be really good.

I had it when I built my barebone laptop, I really wanted a beefy desktop, but this laptop has served me well and was super helpful at school.

I feel it about my parents, I am the only child left and all they want to do is spend spend spend on me. They want me to drive an expensive car. The other day I went shopping with my mother and she was insisting that she buy me a $525 coat. They feel bad because I am the only kid left at home. I took her to burlington coat factory instead, all the coats you could want for under $100! They have the exact opposite, they feel bad if they don't blow lots of money on me. I feel awful when they do. To the op, I love people love you. My gf is in a similar situaction as me, she is an only child and her parents are willing to buy anything for her, but being the amazing person she is, she won't let them. Considering the amount of debt people have these days, I think these kind of wonderful selfless people are diminshing. And thats a bad thing.

I do think that waiting 7 years for a new comp (depending on what you use it for and the frequency of usage) though is not good either.

Bleh. I do all the time. I feel it for spending $2 (man that was a crappy ruler, so happy when I lost it). Feel it all the time just buying lunch. The pisser is that it's due to this that I'm not a crazy spender. However, it goes away after the first week, then 1 more week when the credit card statement comes... On the other hand, the buyers remorse caused me so much pain, it helped me to return an extended warranty recently:).

I only buy once i've exhausted all research possibilities. I spend 4 months researching a laptop to buy that was $200 over my budget, and by the time i was thoroughly convinced it was the right one, it was available for $200 less on ebay :)

Research to death is the only solution to keep me from remorse.
