Gray Davis isn't really doing a bang-up job and has failed in many ways to solve California's problems, but this recall thing could easily backfire on the republicans.

the energy crisis wasn't really his fault, but the way he handled it ensured that california would get screwed for years to come.

he's also increased gov't spending by 50% over 5 years. He hired thousands of people to Gov't jobs to make unemployment go down. This year's budget is actually MORE than last year's despite the financial mess we're in. He's trying to raise every tax imaginable to make up for the difference.

In short, he's a tax and spend democrat.

Go Terminator.

The malfeasance is on Davis's shoulders, for fraud and bankrupting his state.

I think it's great the people of CA are finally attempting to get their government and its officials back under control. It's sad we have to resort to things like "recalls" and "impeachments" but the normal electoral process doesn't seem to be enough anymore.

Maybe the question should be: what has he done to solve California's problems?

This statement I can agree with whole-hearted. From what I've observed of his support and work,
is that he's just been trying to maintain the status quo and possibly solve the budget crisis through cuts.
Like any politician he's too afraid to mention the idea of a tax raise.
Strange as it may seem, but I think the state doesn't tax its citizens enough (this coming from someone who doesn't work enough yet to feel the tax burden :) )
The growing lower and middle class need to put some dough towards the state to at least prop up the education system not to mention easing back the deficit
(which I think somewhere in the CA constitution states that the state cannot by law spend more money than it has).

Unions can be great but some wages seem strangely out of proportion.
Just my belief but I don't think dock works and longshoreman deserve 6-figure incomes as hard as their jobs are, good teachers maybe...

My additional $0.02

considering almost all states in the nation now have budget problems from the recession, and a good half of those governors being republicans...only a moron would begin to blame davis for californias problems. maybe all those republican governors need recalls too eh?

<--hears stony silence.

maybe one should point their fingers at the source of all things, bush. the buck stops there right?

after all, bush was the one that didn't do anything about the power gouging that was obviously illegal. he held back assistence to help out his little buddies in the energy business. and now we see more and more proof that foul play was afoot.

from irresponsible tax cuts, to the attack on the estate tax, bush has dragged the economy through the mud. of course the states are suffering.

republicans don't respect the democratic system. they abuse tools that exist to remove leaders who commit high crimes and use it to smear their opponents for partisan political gain. it happened with clinton, and now again with davis.

His fiscal handling is even worse than what a typical republican would do.

Henceforth the anger.

I agree with you almost completely actually, but I know a lot of people don't. :) People seem to forget that the entire country is struggling right now and CA was hit the hardest because we were the most dependent on the tech companies. Of course, people like how they are getting tax cuts from Bush, yet putting our country deeper into debt. While Davis has to find some way of paying off the deficit, so they hate him for increasing taxes.

The arguments for number three on that list are just stupid. I don't see why there shouldn't be a tax when there is a retail outlet of the site in CA. Enough companies charge tax already. Plus, the tax doesn't affect those lower income familes because they most likely don't even have the internet unless they went to a library.

Would you please explain that principle to the anti-abortion crowd..

Thanks for the link about his pleas to Bush for help with "unethical" energy companies, little did we know at the time he was talking about Enron. I find it rather amusing the GOP would use the energy crisis as a reason, or try to blame the FEDERAL deregulation they passed that helped fuel this crisis on Davis.

Did the GOP think Bush the 1st should have been recalled when he recanted his earlier pledge of "no new taxes"?

These are instant classics for the GOP, right up there with "states rights over federal intervention", otherwise known as, "WAAAAHHHH, Florida won't let us steal this election" and the every life is sacred, give them the death penalty dichotomy.....

I love American politics, even though it's dysfunctional, it is just far too funny to ignore it for too long. I realize I started posting in OT primarily about Iraq, and then this forum was created, which is why so many of you label me as a Bush loving right winger.

Before this current situation I have always been cynical about our govt. and have enjoyed taking it to both sides, more often that not the GOP. While there are principles from both parites I agree with I generally vote democratic, because neither really stands for what they claim and from personal experience and perspective more people benefit when the Dems, I mean those damn "tax and spend liberals", are in power.
