Have you guys seen this latest commercial for the Hummer H2? It pretty much blantantly just proves the real reasoning to have one.

It starts with a mom driving her kid to school. All you see if the window of the vehicle as she's driving him. She asks if he wants her to drop her off now before she gets in front of the school, but he says no..."You can pull right up." Kid gets out of the car and walks into the school in between a group of "cool" kids I would assume, all with dumbstruck looks on their faces. Then they say "nice ride"...que the image of mom in H2:roll:

At least GM has gotten away from showing the H2 in more rugged situations and have stooped down to the level that they are really on

You people are so elitist that once something kickass comes out (like the H1), nothing can ever possibly satisfy you unless it IS the H1. The H2 has it's uses, just like every other vehicle out there -no matter how sh|tty it is. When are you guys going to grow up and realize that just because the H2 isn't the H1 doesn't mean you should constantly bash it?

The BEST H2 commercial ever made was the Asteroids one. :D

The H2 is redneck rice - all the looks of the real deal, but none of the toughness, transmission strength, curb-hopping suspension ... it's a friggin' pickup with a body kit.

The H1 was used as a military vehicle, and advertised as a rugged off road vehicle, the best of the best when it came to off roading. They'd regularly brag about the amazing angles that the car could drive at, and all that jazz. Now it's a soccer mom's car? That's not us being stubbornly dissatisfied, that's completely revamping a car and destroying everything that made the original famous.

The H1 is not the H2 and the marketing company is not marketing it as such. I have never, ever, EVER seen an H1 commercial. How can you say that they were advertised as being whatever, when they weren't ever advertised? They weren't on every dealer's lot. They weren't marketed to the common man.

You think some civilian is going to pay $110,000 for a utility truck? That's what the H1 costs. Cut the cost and functionality in half and you have the H2. It's that simple. You simply must take the vehicle at face value, not on the coat tails of the utility vehicle with the same name.

So there are situations where, say, a Yugo is the best option for someone, and a Corolla/Civic/whatever can't do all the same stuff and be more reliable?

Absolutely. What if someone has next-to-no-cash and needs something immediately to get a job done? Or desperately needs transportation and can't get a loan or financing and only has, say a few hundred dollars? Everything has a usefulness. Some things are obviously more useful than others, but there HAVE to be situations for each and every something where that something has a better advantage over everything else. If you can't see that, you're one of those elitist tools.

I've seen Hummer ads in the past for the H1 in magazines.

The H2 was the sequel to the H1. Typically it's expected that the sequel will improve on the original (although definition and practice often differ a great deal, case and point: H1/H2). Unfortunately, in this case the sequel to the H1 was inferior. It should have had a different brand name.

No shiot!? :Q Before the H2 came out? Wow, I'm really surprised!

I whole-heartedly agree. Sequels very rarely stand up to the greatness of the original if the original kicked serious ass. Here's a list of sequels that sucked and ruined the original:

Ghostbusters 2
Star Wars EP1, 2, and probably 3
Klipsch 5.1 Ultra ProMedia (based on price)
Hoover Windtunnel
Nintendo vs Super Nintendo (probably going to only get agreement from hardcore game fanatics)
Sega Saturn
VHF (I'm fairly certain the Beta came out after VHF, but I could be wrong)
Macintosh :)P)
Metallica
FuseTalk
Miracle Blade (based on cost of original product debut under the company's previous name of Ginsu)
Pepsi One (versus regular Pepsi or Diet Pepsi)
Jackie Chan (versus Bruce Lee)

blah blah blah blah blah

Yes, sometimes the sequel to an original something actually IS an improvement. Most of the time, it's not.

If the H2 was the sequel.... our boys in Iraq would be driving these turds over roadside bombs... how does that make sense?

the H2 is a cash cow aimed at civilians only, end of story. Nobody ever lost money underestimating the stupidity or insecurities of americans

Wait, who said the H2 was ever billed as equal to or a replacement for the H1? Seems pretty obvious to me they were built for entirely different purposes and should not be viewed in the manner you are describing.

So you're saying because there have been other subpar sequels we should just learn to live with it?

Noone said it was aimed towards a replacement for the H1. But considering it uses the same brand name, and the name indicates that it is a sequel to the original, you would expect it would improve on the original.

VHS, not VHF.

It's implicitly implied by the whole H2 name. There was the hummer before, H1, which makes the H2 the sequel to the H1. Dictionary.com defines sequel as a continuation. A continuation would therefore possess the same inherent traits as the original, and would likely improve upon them.
