People who ask this crack me up. They are talking about spending a few hundred dollars to play one video game. A game that they aren't even sure they'll like!
Crazy.

FFMCobalt, what are your system specs?
I thought you were really asking. I usually tell people they have to wait for Tejas and the Radeon 12000 pro.Originally posted by: Wingznut

FFMCobalt,
How did the game run? What res did you run it at and what framerate did you get? Did you miss anything out of the Ti line (what I have also) not being being direct x 9 compliant?

The GF4's are not DX9 hardware. They work fine with DX9, but on the hardware level, they are only DX8 cards. You don't get some of the new features DX9 includes unless you pick up a DX9 card...like the ATI 9600/9700/9800, or some if the new Nvidia cards.

Roger that!
The way things seem to be shaping up, if the marketers aren't completely putting us on:
nVidia for Doom III
ATi for HL2
(Although it shouldn't REALLY make a big difference)
Anyway, as much as I like nVidia, it looks like I'll be buying an ATi card come summer...
BTW, sure it's hundreds of dollars to play one game. But you forget that an upgrade will benefit other games as well. My (somewhat uneducated) guess is that if you can run Doom III well, you should be able to run any next-generation title smoothly.

pretty much irrelevant isn't it, that HL2>Doom3
so change the OP Title to What hardware should I buy to run HL2? and the point is still the same.

Correct. What's your point?
Personally, I just wanted to contribute some of my thoughts on the issue.
