What happens when you overpay on your credit card?

This morning, I had $118 credit on my CC. I withdrew $100 from an ABM that is independant of my bank but that I dont have to pay a service charge on (which should leave me w/ $18 credit). Later today I deposited $1000 to my savings account.

When I got home, I used my banks online banking system and apparently my CC had $0 credit remaining! I figured this was weird, but transfered $500 to completely pay off my card. After I transfered the $500, it showed that I only had $466.85 on the CC, so I transfered another $33.15.

So as of right now, I have overpayed my CC by $51.15. What happens with this money that I have overpayed to my CC?

they either use it as a credit on your account or you can call and have them send you a check for it. but if you are keeping the account active and everything..just leave it on there as a credit.

It converts to a negative credit balance, so you can make purchases and the negative balance will be used toward payment of your balance.

However, if you do not make use of the credit in months, then they'll send it in the form of a cheque to you.

But you are free to request it much earlier yourself.

Yea, last time I did that, they put a credit on my account. So my limit was $2300, but I overpaid by $30, so my limit said $2330.

Actually what happens is that in the sweatshop room where the little green or amber dumb terminals sit patiently, there arises a high pitched squeal from an "associate". A dull thud is heard a moment later.

A head appears from behind the wall of a cubicle and stares at the direction where the sound originated. A nasally voice can be heard from yet another carpeted half-prison "What happened......someone actually pay their minimum on time?"

The guy who poked his head out answers "No, its worse than that. Jeanie actually fell over this time...she's lying on the floor stupified."

A scrawny man in a suit peers around a corner. Seeing the woman lying motionless, he carefully steps forward, tugging a computer printout from her hand. Scanning the pages while promptly ignoring her state, the color of his face changes to match the fallen woman's. Paper scatters as he sprints down the hallway in the opposite direction.

A scrawny hand pounds a giant, red button. Choking back racking sobs, his voice pierces even the low murmur of the late shift.....

"Oh, God...no...no......why?......nooooooooo!..............we can't handle a positive balance.......no training..........thought it was only a myth......a myth......a myth......."

According to one of the credit card companies I spoke to a long time ago. If you overpay too much you will set off their fraud warning system and they will freeze the account while they investigate. So carefull on the overpay.
