What happens when using a HT P4 processor in a non-HT P4 board?

This board currently has a P4 1.9 Socket 478. I have flashed the board to the latest BIOS. However, I can't find any of Intel's documentation showing the max speed P4 processor supported by this processor. Any ideas on what would happen if I use a 3.0GHz HT in this? Will it just clock down? Not run at all? Do HT systems run on DDR memory? (As opposed to DDR2)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. The 3.0Ghz P4 you have runs at 200 Mhz x 15 (200 Mhz quad-pumped).

The mobo only supports 533 Mhz FSB (133 Mhz quad-pumped), so the new processor should down-clock to that speed. Taking the same multiplier (15), you will get 133 x 15 ~= 2.0 Ghz. Not much improvement over the current processor.

Thanks for your response! Man things have gotten so complicated these days. What happened to the old days when Clock = FSB x Multiplier?? Quad pumps...
