Embassador in exile. I can see him taking refuge in someplace like France or Syria. He'll continue trying to raise funds, whathaveyou, but I doubt anything will come of it. I'm sure someone from the International Court will try to arrest him, if not, someone will try and bump him off.

he starts packing and hopefully he has enough money on his visa card to buy an airline ticket out of the U.S.

Al-Douri is just a small-time bureaucrat, you can't try him for anything. He is an experienced diplomat, but like all Saddam flunkies he has no future in post-war Iraq so I'm guessing he'll defect to Libya or some place like that.

I think he'll probably get a job in the new government, after things settle down. Bureocrats have a way of persisting throughout regimes.

al douri wasn't part of saddams inner circle, so he will most likely survive.

You're serious, right?
YES I'm serious! What do we arrest him for? For holding New York City hostage? For conspiring with the 9/11 terrorists (he MIGHT have been in NYC when it happened!! :Q) Was he planning a chemical/biological attack inside the UN building??? What do you want to try him for? I'm sure we can convict him of anything we want...seeing how the Intl' Court of Justice in The Hague won't be involved.

You really think we can arrest him for lying to the UN on behalf of his government?

CNN just ran a clip where they caught him outside his residence... hes already trying to set himself up for a new job, said that the war was over, all he wants is peace for the Iraqi people, and that he has no association with Saddam.

i'm sure we could arrest him just for working with a mass murder like saddam and helping to cover it up. i doubt we let him in the government.

They can't arrest him.
I can't imagine the new Iraqi government letting any former baathists in the new government.
I feel sorry for him. It sucks being on the losing side.

How does the guy have diplomatic immunity when he's no longer a diplomat?

As far as what charges can be brought against him- the International Court allows charges to be brought against virtually anyone- including seated rulers. Not saying whether this is right or wrong, but it can be done, and will be.

As far as potential charges, I'm sure a few can be found, trumped up or not- being part of a regime as cruel as Saddam's, he must have some skeletons in his closet.

As long as we're on this subject, does anyone know what happened to the former embassadors for Nazi Germany after WWII?
