What happens to sim card after updating your iPhone?

I went to the Apple store and upgraded my iPhone for practically free yesterday (after selling my old iPhone). I didn't remove the sim card from the phone I sold, and I'm wondering if I should consider getting it back. Thanks for your help in advance!

It should be fine since they activated the new sim for your number anyway. The old sim is worthless.

The old sim is generally disactivated after the new one is activated, so it's useless now.

The sim card tray is at the very top of the iPhone. There's a little hole at the top so you can push a pin in and the tray will pop out.

Headsets go in the headphone jack on the top of the phone, what he's talking about is a very tiny hole near the middle of the top of the phone.
