What happens to HMC memory?

It lost? Superior, that would explain why it did not become the standard, I guess? HBM became the standard. HMC is still used in some specific custom server scenarios but mostly by intel and even then its a derivative. They also use HBM, so it's really down to what fits best I think. Btw, iirc HMC is very expensive and it's been over a year since I read all that info between the two standards.

KNL uses HMC (16GB). Fiji uses HBM (4GB). That's pretty much as far as it has come so far today.

You have to look quite some years down the road before you can see what uses what. I would expect Xeons to pack HMC one day.
