What happens to all of that crap they build for the Olympics once it's over?

The massive stadiums, the pools, the huge gyms? Do they just go barely used after the games?

They get used for a while, probably grand plans for them to be used. But after a couple of years they get to be expensive white elephants and slowly deterioriate.

Sometimes they destroy it and sometimes they leave it for public use. It depends on what is in question. For instance, I heard that they're leaving the White Water Rapids Slalom after the games end for training purposes.

They still use a lot of the stuff here from the 1996 games. The big stadium was converted into the Braves field and most of the aquatics stuff is on the GA Tech campus.

Didn't they do some of the events in Athens at UGA, as well?

When they actually play in Canada, the Expos play their home games in Olympic Stadium, which I believe was made for the 1976 summer games.

I remember Olympic Stadium in LA back in 1984 has been tear down. Well... I should say only half portion of it. They convert it into smaller stadium.

Yep. They used the UGA football stadium for soccer.

In Calgary none of the olympic stuff is really used at all. The bobsled and luge tracks are used, but the rest is falling over. It's actually a bit sad to see.

Most are used for training. The larger stadiums for soccer and track and field do not get used as much as stuff like the swimming/diving venues or other indoor stadiums.

After the slalom Canoe/Kayak events are over, they should throw a few thousand steelhead trout in there and let the people fly fish. ;)

Yeah, they had said that if you averaged it over the population of Greece, every citizen had an extra $10K of debt from this.

but u guys dont see the value in this.. olympics being held in your country/city is a big thing... reading about all these previous olympics building being used up for non-sporting events such as parties just gives me the chill... just years ago athletes were right there from all around the world;) its kinda emotional for the greece i think after everybody leaves
