What happens to a UPS package?

Any UPS workers here?

This thread is just a question, no complaint about UPS.
Bought something last week, it shipped Friday the 13th and expected delivery is tomorrow Thursday 20th.
Tracking states that it left on the 14th from Washington to NY, but no updates since then.

So what happen to the package, does it arrive and sit somewhere waiting?

I don't know, but for the past couple months every single one of my UPS deliveries have been arriving smashed to some extent. DHL and Fedex don't do that...

I never had anything really smashed.

They seem to have a policy of not delivering things early. If you order 3-day and it arrives in two, they will hold onto it. They want you to pay for the better shipping next time.

Fedex seems to do the same thing but not all the time.

Alright, thats fine, but where is the package? Do they just not scan it for a while?

Their tracking is a bit screwy nowadays. On my last package the tracking shows that it arrived at my local sorting facility the day before it was suppose to go out. The next day I expected it to show 'Out for Delivery' but it never updated. The package never came nor did I get a notice of an attempted delivery. Later that day the scheduled delivery date disappeared. Monday comes and still no update but it was delivered late that day though. UPS is my area use to be pretty good but has gone completely down hill now.

Sometimes it gets scanned and sits.
Sometimes it sits and then gets scanned.
Whatever makes the most sense to them at the time.

And dont get too hung up on the status, because they lie like dogs.
I checked one morning and the thing was labeled as delivered.
8 hours later the guy showed up at my door.

Usually when I have a package coming from across the country, I don't see any updates until it reaches a facility close by. A package from NJ didn't show another scan until it made it to CA.

UPS should be banned from existance. Worst courier of all time bar none.

i worked at UPS for 3 weeks, i was a loader. UPS has loaders, unloaders, sorters, and numerous other useless people...anyway, i loaded trucks(tractor trailers, not the smaller delivery trucks) with packages, so i had a handheld scanner that i would have to scan the barcode on each pacakge with. The packages would come down from a line and come right into my truck for me to scan, all i had to do was make sure that the zipcode was right for that truck and then scan the package and "gently" place the packages into the truck. I blame late packages and damaged packages on the scumbags who worked there, maybe thats why i only lasted 3 weeks. UPS doesn't give drug tests when you get hired so pretty much 95% of employees at the HUB i was at were scumbags who just worked there to get money to buy their drugs and ****** looking 22" chrome rims on their ****** cars!

It's on the back of an 18-wheeler in transit. The tracking only reflects times that it's handled and scanned. On the trip cross-country it's on the same truck and isn't touched. It's status won't be changed until it reaches a depot somewhere and is transferred from that truck to a different truck.

I don't think they screen their new and current employees very well. Plus from the stories my roommates tell me about the place most of their sorters, loaders and unloaders are slackers who dont give a rats a$$ about their job. Even my roommates went to work drunk a few times.

I applied to Fedex awhile back for loaders and unloaders and they are very strict about their process. They want your complete work history and explain any gaps. They want complete addresses of places you lived within the past 10 years. No criminal history and a drug test if you're selected. I walked out of the application process 1/4 of the way through.

Not true. My package was shipped the 17th, scheduled to be delievered the 18th. It was supposed to take 3-5 days.

I know for a fact that UPS doesn't do that. If you live in one part of New York and ship a package to another part, it'll get there the next day, and that's guaranteed. Now, if you want to be a retard and pay extra for Next Day Air Saver, they'll gladly take your money - but the package will take the exact same path.

Is this a trick question? If you shipped it out last week Friday the 13th, then you're lying because last week Friday is the 14th.

Is this a trick question? If you shipped it out last week Friday the 13th, then you're lying because last week Friday is the 14th.

I got the day wrong.. sorry but it did ship on Thursday the 13th. I order the item that same day and got the tracking number at night.

Anyways the package has arrived at home according to Tracking its in the porch. It finally had an update last night when it got to NJ, then to NY and then out for delivery.

I guess it was in a truck through its cross-country trip. I thought they only used planes to move things and then local big trucks and then the delivery trucks.
