I put a MR11 halogen bulb rated for 5 watts/6volts in a fiber-optic novelty fixture that came with a 5watt/12volt bulb?

You can't really predict if it going to catch fire or melt part of it. I mean there's always the possibility but it is not that high.

So in other words toss the bulb I mistakenly bought and get the right voltage bulb.

i'd be careful with halogens, i think the bulbs are pressurized, you could have a small explosion on hand.

Definitely replace it.....don't want to chance something bad happening. I mean, like you said.......it's 5 watts. Not a big deal....but just in case, swap it out with the right one.
