my dad's car is a stick, my mom is the only car that is an auto. We didnt want to give her a stick, even though she does drive stick.

The reason the pillow is there on top of the shifter is to prevent my dad from touching the shifter.. if he cant see it he wont shift it.

<< Would you shoot backwards like a bullet? >>

no, the gear engager-thing wouldn't be able to lock into the reverse gear. You can only do that while the car is at a standstill. So the gears would just grind together, possibly damaging your transmission :)

Here's another question related to this topic. How much damage are you doing when you backup in reverse , brake, and drop it in drive while the car is still rolling a little bit backwards at say 1 or 2mph? This is a pet peeve of mine, my father does this every day and I figure he's killing his tranny.

Back in my stupid car rental youth, we did something similar to a Lincoln Town Car. Going around 50mph, we (me and some other idiots) threw it into 'Park'. The car stopped rapidly, all the while a very loud clicking noise was heard.

No noticeable damage! Well we brought it back the next day, so who cares ?

We also did various other things to other rentals. I believe me and the other idiots are single-handedly responsible for bringing the car rental age from 18 to 25 (at least in PA) /somewhat proud
