OP is tortured by frenzied passengers and reveals the location of EMP.
Plane lands uneventfully and OP goes to FPMITAP, where they "sneak" something...something Bubba sneaks...yeah..YEAH!!!

Uh... Good luck shielding from a good EMP weapon.

Shielding is for low energy interference, not a weapon style massive jolt of energy.

Might as well just sneak a nuclear warhead on then, since it'll probably be smaller and definitely much more effective. :)

Might as well sneak a grenade, since it will be even smaller and still effective. No need to blow plane to pieces, just blow an opening size of a door at 30 000ft

Mythbusters has disproved this, all you'd accomplish with that is blowing up everyone in the grenade's effective radius (well actually not quite that many unless you held it over your head right as it went off). The plane would keep flying just fine and in all probability it would land safely.

I hope that the OP isn't a terrorist. Otherwise we might all be taken into "questioning" (aka interrogation, aka torture) by the government for collaborating with him.

*checks OP's profile*

Oh no! He's from Namibia! Namibia!!! Naaammibiaaaaa!!!

*passes out*

Airliners have had failures that lead to rather large openings in the fuselage and it didn't bring the plane down. There was a 747 that landed safely after a door came loose and ripped a huge hole in the side of the plane in flight.

CTU panics because Jack Bauer is in jail.

<-- Is living in back in time in 2005 and has not seen anything beyond season 4 :p

He means in real life. He got arrested for DUI.

<--- Calls Chloe, all she needs is an ip and his jail door will be open

I bet it would wind up crashing, the pilots might be able to do some things but it'd be really hard to bring an A380 down safely without any electronics.

The A380 has a backup hydraulic flight control system. In the event of total electronics failures, and engine failure the aircraft would turn into a very heavy glider. There would be enough hydraulic pressure in the backup system (being a backup system, it does include pressurized hydraulic storage tanks for complete power failure emergencies) for a very basic divert and emergency landing attempt.

on a transatlantic flight everyone is getting wet

Yes, there have been two that I can think of off the top of my head that have suffered explosive decompression.

UAL 811

Another famous one is Aloha Airlines 243

The Mythbusters are not the end-all of reality. Especially when they bust 'myths' that have actually occurred.

Could you even get an EMP large enough to damage the whole plane onboard? In the size of a carry on bag? I doubt it.

Redundant submission of post.

"There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"
