What happened?

I came home one night and my computer was making a loud steady beep and wont boot. Two things will make the beeping stop:

1: Removing the CPU
2: Removing the graphics card.

I know that the graphics card is not busted because i tried another working one, and it still beeps (with the CPU in).
Can you access the BIOS without the CPU in? because nothing would happen with the CPU out.

Do i need to buy a new motherboard or CPU? OR do you have any suggestions

you need a CPU to have the PC post. I would examine the CPU and make sure it didn't over heat or burn etc. Good luck!

the two shops that are in my town wont do it. One hates AMD the other wont stick it in a mobo because it might fry the board. Also they would charge me $35 to do it! So i asked them if they would sell/give me a REALLY old chip, they would sell me a 900 t-bird for $20, so i left. I'm going to look for a $10 processor online.

no luck finding anything cheaper than the $20 900 at the local shop. any suggestions? anyone want to give me their super old duron?😉

go through the bios settings (if it can get that far try holding down delete *AS* you boot....usually it will get that far unless the CPU is definitely bad).

When I got my ASUS TUV4X it defaulted to a multipier of FSB/Memory that was insane....once I changed it to 1:1 it was good (I think it defaulted to 1:3).

I am not sure about being able to access the bios without a CPU...depending on the motherboard I would think it would be possible, but it may be hardwired to not be.

When both CPU and Motherboard are possiblities it's a hard call and a 50% gamble. Even getting someone else's motherboard or trying your CPU in another system could now lead to two dead systems 🙂.

Ebay will probably be your best bet or the fs/t forums here if all you want to do is get to the Duron 900 level.

Post a WTB combo and explain your needs....you may get some 'donations' 😉

lol ... you didn't want to spend 20 bucks for an old athlon 900 but you want to buy some other processor for 10 bucks plus possible shipping and handling.

Just get the mom n pops CPU and test.
