What happened to Win2k share permissions in WinXP Pro? -> Solved in less than 30 minutes!

I have WinXP Professional edition, and today I needed to set up a share on my LAN so that ONE user could have write access to it and everyone would have read access to it. This is no problem in Win2k Pro (just specify who needs write and read access individually), but the "Permissions" button under the "Sharing" tab is GONE in XP!

Does anyone know how to go about this in XP?

I'm doing this from memory, since I'm not on WinXP at the moment, but IIRC you can go into My Computer, click Tools, Folder Options, and poke around in the tabs until you see something about simple file sharing. Make sure it's disabled.

open a folder
click tools
view, scroll all the way down to bottom and unselect simple file sharing

You guys ROCK! It would have taken me HOURS to find that option!

Thanks,

Kyle

P.S. I wonder why the hell M$ buried that option down in Tools->Folder Options->View->Simple Fire Sharing?? Why wouldn't they just put a check box on the Sharing tab that says something like, "Show me advanced sharing options..."? Would this just make too much sense?

It would have made more sense but XP is more 'user friendly' so shut up and enjoy and the new 'feature'. Which obviously has made your life meaningful with it's simplicity and ease of use.
Seriously though I thought there was a way to turn off that 'simple' file sharing thing globally?
