What happened to turn signals?

I remember few things from drivers ed many eons ago but isnt it a law to use a turn signal when switching lanes or actually turning? Whatever happened to people using one? I will gladly tag another car if they try to jump in front of me b/c they feel it neccessary to switch lanes for no reason, and then not signal. At first, i noticed it years ago with a certain race never using a signal, now everyone has followed suit, kinda like those loud-ass pipes and bass-pumping wannabees. Am i bitter? hahaha Tell me this aint the truth i speak! Maybe it has to do with fat overweight non graduating from grammar school driver ed teachers! Ok, i'm done!

Totally with you except for the "certain race" thing. I always use my turn signal.

I dont mean to be racist, it was just something we all talked about once around my way. I love all races! Feel the love!

I always use my turn signal as well. Until 2 days ago when the rear left turn signal went out. Still do it out of habit though, but I have yet to pass by Autozone. Which reminds me I gotta go later. 😛

i go out of my way not to let somebody in and I'll block them out if I can tell they want in to my lane but are not using a turn signal.

That said I use mine depending on the situation. If it can't affect anybody around me I generally don't bother, and dito if I'm changin glanes and nobody is that close to me. But if I'm merging or traffic is tight, or I'm turning or whatever, then I do.

People who never use them, while annoying, pale in comparison to the scorn I direct at those who don't use a turning lane and try and turn from the main one 🙁

I want to be a traffic cop when I see people do stupid stuff like that...I'm so with you on this.

Sometimes you gotta avoid using turn signals.

i.e you signal to get into a lane on a highway or a local road, the asshole that's somewhat behind you in a next lane over speeds up all of a sudden.

I think turn signals start to get useless when there is turning lanes. Do I really need to say that I'm turning when that is the only option for that lane.

You didn't say it, but we know that, until you pass by Autozone, you are using hand signals to indicate those left turns and lane changes. 😉

In Tallahassee, if you see a car with the turn signal on, chances are it was on when the car was purchased.

They're important with two-way turn lanes (i.e. a center turn lane for a two-way road). If you don't signal, other drivers can't be sure if you're trying to enter traffic after a turn, or if you're turning onto a cross street.

I don't think stock cars have turn signals. Nascar never required them. Is that the "certain race" you're talking about?

LOL.

Don't think it's always so obvious. The number of times I see drivers in a turn lane suddenly try to get out of it is a lot higher than I'd like. At least if you've got your signal on, I have a more reasonable expectation that you actually are where you want to be and are going where I expect.

That is when it is time to use the unwritten 4 blink rule. 3 blinks is a courtesy and request to come over. 4 th blink I am coming over.

yes.

it's helpful for drivers in the opposite direction.

if you're in a left turning lane without your blinker on, and I'm on the opposite side trying to make a left turn, I'll end up sitting there waiting for you to go straight since you'd have the right of way.

plus, how much effort does it take to flick the switch to indicate that you're turning?

This is the precise reason that not signalling should be a capital offense. You are literally too lazy to even lift a finger to help the other drivers know what you are planning.

this pisses me off till no end. i always get mad at my gf everytime she forgets or doesnt use them. but she's gotten a lot better nowadays. i use mine all the time...except when im driving along on the highway in the middle of the night or when there's noone else besides me on the road

Drivers who don't use turn signals is one of my biggest pet peeves. I mean how hard is it to use them!?! I feel like climbing into their cars, breaking the turn signal stalk off, and then telling the driver that I will be keeping their turn signal stalk since they obviously have no use for them.

how about those ppl who leave them on all the time!! even after changing lanes back and forth!!

This is the reaon why I no longer use them when changing lanes. Around here people seem to take a perverse glee in screwing you over. I use to be the 'good driver', not necessarily a 'model' driver, but a good one. I'm over it. People suck - I'm done sticking out like a sore thumb; I'm going to try to blend in.
