Well I got one of these in the summer for my athlon xp, and it was a good price for a good heatsink. Much better price/performance ratio than other heatsinks on the market. Now that I am in need of another one, where have they gone. SVC - none, Case-Mods- none, and so on. Now I can't find any heatsinks with equal heat dissipation to the Sk7 anywhere close to $16 or less. Closest thermalright heatsinks now are $30 a pop. Anyone know where I can still get one for cheap? Thanks.

ughhh $20 + shipping. I remember getting mine when it was $17 at SVC, with free pickup. Thermalright must have realized they were losing money by selling this one, which attracts many away from the higher models.

What's disappointing to me is that these companies are stupidly slow with heatsinks for Hammer :p I mean, heck, it's a fully-symmetrical design, just slap some fins on a base and give it a symmetrical clip with a screw at each end, smack a fan onto the top and sell it! Thermalright should've had a heatsink ready to go when the A64 reached market IMHO.

Actually, the more I think about it, the SK-7 would just need a proper clip and no step on its underside, and perhaps a little smaller base size, and it would make a brilliant Hammer heatsink :p

It may seem easy, however to properly get a product out with the quantities that these companies produce, its a huge investment for a company to introduce a product line. There is a lot of money involved. You do not want to release something than find out it won't sell or it isn't moving, than you are stuck with 10's of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

Companies will start releasing products once they see the full potential of the 'Hammer.

SLK-948 is one from Thermalright (K8 and p4), and also the SP98 for the k8 and even a new SP-97 for K7. Soon. :)

nice new one...but when will they come out with a $20 one to take the place of the SK-7 (or IMO, AX-7)? I'm fine with modding my AX-7 when I upgrade , but I sure won't build or upgrade anyone else's machine with such a thing. If the SK-7 fits and is no longer needed at some point, may do the same to it, too...the A64's are running very cool.
The SLK-700 is almost there (you can easily get them for <$25), but it would need to at least be able to use an 80mm fan out of the box before I'd consider it.

Thermaltake is also coming out with their K8 version of the volcano 12 and the silent boost, see here

Not yet sure which of the newer Thermalright sinks will be lower cost. Too bad the sk7 is so scarce. It is the best value that was available.

I personally have the AX-7 and it's a very cool little heatsink (pun not intended). It keeps my XP 1700 "Palomino" (even with my 2100rpm Panaflo) at under 35c under load. Not to mention that it looks like a alien spaceship out of a tacky sci-fi movie. :)
