What happened to the supposed price hike in CD-R media?

Wasn't there an article last summer about how these things were going to get a lot higher in price? There were several factories that shutdown, etc. I think they could stop making these today and still have a supply for the next few years. I don't think I'll need to purchase any for at least that amount of time.

I have know idea what this has to do with the price of tea in China, but it sure makes lemonade out of apples.

About the only thing I think happened is they sold more media after some of us read the article. I read the same thing and stocked up at good prices, but never saw the supposed jump in price...

I don't know about price hikes, but some big stores in canada is charging levy on cdr's, costing about 30 cents per cd. That's like half of the cost of Cd.

I stocked up on crapload of it over the summer as many people when everyone was talking about three times price jump. The price jump only affected the cheapest cheapest stuff and didn't affect the quality stuff I buy such as TY, Verbatim and Kodak's. I don't think you see $5/50CD deal as much as you did last summer. I'm not too happy about the issue since I heard CD-R's have pretty short shelf life in unrecorded form. It should last a long time once recorded, but unrecorded one has shelf life of five years or less if I recall correctly.

I got about 550 CD's here.. Well it would be hella funny to put those on a crate and collide it into a concrete wall at 350mph or drop it onto concrete from an airplane. Silver confetti's and plastic shrapnels flying everywhere 😀 😀 😀

<< jeez jerboy, think you have enough? 😛

i have 150 TY 🙂

Yeah probably enough to last until CD-R is outdated technology 😛

i read a few articles a month or three back about the supposed price hike. i remember they said that most of the cdr manufacturers decided to stay on board when dvd recorders started drastically dropping in price. most of the companies were expecting huge litigations and protests until they realised there isn't a standard blank dvd format, and that the movie industry had regular cdr's higher on the list of no-no's since they could cheaply be used in standalone dvd players. Anyhow...cdr's are never really an issue. Every major retail store i go to has broken spindles/open item cdrs for cheeeeeeap ($10-20 per 100 usually). I've got around 1400 blanks right now...and i'm slowly starting to stock up on cd sleaves. I make entirely too many cd's for friends 😉

hehe

"sorry you are too efficient and sell below our costs, so therefore we must raise the tariff"

EU's stuff costs so much cuz of all the lame union worker laws. 6 month mandatory vacation....
