I'm running XP, and today Winamp 2.81 started crashing when I tried to add my whole MP3 directory to the playlist. (~850 files). WinXP has always been unstable on my comp when working with large numbers of files (like when I would try to view my Temporary Internet Files folder Explorer would crash) but this is the first time Winamp started misbehaving.

Anyway, I couldn't get Winamp to load my music directory so I downloaded Winamp 3 and gave that a try. It loaded the files fine, but there's no quick search like you got in Winamp 2.81 when you pressed the J key! Am I missing something?

BTW, if anyone has some thoughts on how to make XP work with large numbers of file without crashing, please tell me. :( It was doing it with my Digital Pictures folder, but I checked the box that says "Do Not Cache Thumbnails" and that problem went away.

I have 1049 files currently on my Winamp 2 playlist (running XP). No problems whatsoever, although it takes a long time for it to compute the lists playtime. Maybe this is where the problem is ... have you tried loading smaller saved playlists into one large playlist?

And there's no "J" function in Winamp 3 (I miss that too). There's a (crappy) search function which highlights the files on the playlist, but that's about it.
