Leave, problem solved

Maybe we should make everyone apply for their ability to stay.

What exactly do you contribute to society and how does it outweigh all the meaningless bitching you do all day on AT P&N?

If you have to ask then you don' know jack about me.

Meaning you do absolutely nothing.

It really seems that the nationalistic spirit in this nation is dead compared to countries around the world. We are living in the greatest example of democracy the world has known and I for one am damn proud each and every day I wake up.

Dont worry, all the lefties that have said this country sucks for the last 8 years cant really say much starting in January.

It will be very interesting to see what liberals say the first time one of our helllfires takes out 10 civilians in Afghanistan and/or Pakistan under Obama.

IMO America has great things and terrible things. IMO Amog the terrible things are idiots on the right who can'tunderstand the democrats' views and misrepresent them this badly.

IMO Democrats take huge pride in the great things about America, and care enough about their country to fight the bad. IMO The right is sick and fights against improvements. See my sig.

Fixed

What is there that I should be loyal to? And what makes the US "leagues above" everyone else with its "shining example of democracy"? The last 8 years has shown me that no matter what the majority of people in this country want, the government's gonna do whatever the hell it wants.

Yes, you mean like the Democrats in NY that are concerned about our calorie count and think it should be displayed in restaurant menus, the fact that trans fats are bad and should be banned, that we shouldn't smoke -- anywhere -- so lets tax the hell out of cigarettes, that guns should be taken away to prevent some kid somewhere born of stupid parents who left the gun laying around from killing himself?

Seems like the Dems care about a lot of things, except liberty and personal responsibility.

Meanwhile a Republican would have no problem responding to the above examples of harm done to a person with a simple "hey, that's what you get for being stupid". But I guess the hands off / live and let live approach is too cold and calous for all you sensitive lib types, right?

How does requiring restaurants to show nutrition info harm personal responsibility? Does your personal responsibility involve some magical way of knowing the nutrition info for meals?

It's called common fvcking sense. Try it sometime, it's contageous.

"I'm 20 pounds overweight, yet I feel like having KFC for dinner. Thank God the Dems forced them to list the calories so I don't eat too much. Great!"

lol...give me a fvcking break.

Our soldiers keep being killed by people in Iran and we do nothing. Where is the compassion for the soldier that is killed by an IED device made in Iran. Where is the Iranian blood running in the streets? We have truly become weak.

Thank you redundant department of redundancy. Of course it is his opinion

I suggest you look up the origin of nationalism and the events surrounding it before you necessarily believe it to be a good thing.

 so true...

Who says we're NOT all proud of our country? Pride isn't something that's supposed to go on display, and overly obvious nationalism is usually a cover for selling you something.

One thing that gives me some sense of pride, though I hate pride in general, is this old lady where I live.

I don't know her name, but i see her at least once a week during the warmer months of the midwest walking along a 5 mile stretch of a few roads on my way to work. She's fairly old, 80's i'd guess, and makes her way slowly up and down the street waving American flags, smiling and waving at passers by. I have no idea what her deal is, but it's obvious she loves this country. She really looks like a russian immigrant or something, walks very slowly and fraily, carrying a folding chair and American flags, more of a waddle than a walk, and stops a lot.

She sits on the sidewalk and just waves her flags and smiles. I'd really love to just stop and talk to her sometime, but I never have taken the chance. At first I thought she was selling flags, but i've never seen a sign of any kind and never seen anyone talking to her.

I am very much a nationalist, AND patriotic.

(I wonder if patriotic is what you meant instead of nationalistic?)

I'm gonna go ahead and say the lack of a 'goal' or collective challenge for the American people. We're at our best when we have a reason to unite and work together. Look back at the challenges of past generations. WWII, the Space Race, the Cold War.

What came after that? Nothing that bears the weight of any of those events.

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. Damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

Don't bring Obama's wife into this.

Actually, many people might argue that "Republican Democracy" is just as accurate a description... but perhaps that's a subject for another day.

I think it's more of... a Constitutional Democratic Republic 😛
