What happened to my overclock?

I'm running a Gigabyte 965PDS3 rev 3.3

I was at 2.8GHz, and then updated to bios F13 (from F7) since I am thinking about picking up a Q9300 from my microcenter.

After BIOS flash, I can't overclock AT ALL. Was trying a lot of different combinations but finally just tried +10mhz but no dice. During post it never gets through the memory check...

I've tried keeping the memory at default 667mhz (even though it's rated to 800mhz) by way of multiplier, but again, nothing works.

Anyone have ANY clue? Would an update to a BIOS seriously take away ALL of my overclock? If I upgrade to a Q9300 I won't really be looking to OC that much, but I'm not sure it will even work in my motherboard anymore... help!

Did you clear the CMOS after the update and verify PCIE locked at 100? Are your voltages the same?

didn't clear the CMOS; I'll give that a whirl later tonight/maybe tomorrow and report back. I made sure PCIE was set to 100..

Clearing the CMOS had no effect. Can't overclock an iota... I'm totally at a loss right now...

Can you run a memory divider and loosen the timings?

Sometimes when you update the BIOS it messes up the memory timings, and they may no longer be stable.

I tried to run at 6*333 for 2.0GHz... should do this without any bumps in voltage but I put it to:

Vcore 1.425
FSB +.2
GMCH (sp?) +.2

Had the memory divider at 2.00 to give 667mhz on the ram... still didn't fire up.

I haven't really touched the timings, but if i boot at 9*200 = 1.8GHz with 200*2.66 for 667mhz on the RAM, I have no idea in heck why I can't get any overclock working...

You should try loosening the timings. The wrong memory timings can cause the system to fail and no longer post.

Well... it yelled at me when i tried to bump from Auto (5-5-5-13) to (6-6-6-15) without even touching my fsb... maybe my motherboard is fed up with having all 4 slots populated?

I dunno, BIOS updates can get finicky like that.

I'm pretty sure they can even break compatibility with certain brands of memory.

Maybe you should revert back until you buy your new CPU.
