Music is no different than it used to be. You still have to sort thru WHOLE bunch of crap to get to the good stuff.

Ok fine, you have MORE crap to sort thru.....

I would like to add that there are many amazing artists out there producing amazing music. The good (and bad thing) about them is that they are fringe. Just avoid mass-market crap designed for the 10-25 age market.

Andrew Bird is perhaps one of the greatest artists of all time and he is alive and well producing music. Case in point is his KEXP live performance.

This was my point- technology has enabled everyone to play music, and as a result there are millions of submissions from people that think they have talent. Of those millions, maybe 100 are worth listening to. However, since people expect crap, those 100 with actual talent never get discovered and properly distributed.

Music hasn't changed much. Your ears have changed. Its documented fact that people identify with music from their formative years because that is when it had the most influence on them.

That said, there are TONS of good modern bands/singer songwriters

Example 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j97zxM2nsSM

Example 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXrmM5IEKaM (start 1 minute in)

Example 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIeCrj_Gn6A (say what you want - gaga can sing)

Example 4 - Since rap was called out - I'd say eminem is about as close to modern gangsta rap as their is, though his message is far more personal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcUgsvpchms

I'm fairly certain that we have the same taste in music.

CNN was launched in 1980. :colbert:

CNN was actually legitimate news until around the turn of the century.

Something happened to news channels that turned them into all opinion and a little news. If something like 60 Minutes were created today, it would be 58 minutes of Andy Rooney and 2 minutes of news stories.
