Another thread in another section of these boards sparked this in my head.
Not mentioning any names, but... some people seem to think it's ok to RMA a computer componant that was damaged by overclocking, and get a free replacement. Does this strike anyone as being wrong? If you bought a new car, never changed the oil, and took it back 3 years later when the engine seized, do you think you're entitled to a new engine? What makes it any different than computer hardware?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti-overclocking fanatic as you can see from my sig and other posts I've made. I'm all for queezing every last bit of performance out of the hardware you buy. But if you don't know what you're doing, and the hardware fails, you are NOT entitled to a free replacement! To me that's just common sense.
That's just one example of the lack of morals and common sense in society today. You see it all the time, mostly with teenagers, but even some adults.
Another example... a small creek runs behind my house, so everyone's backyard on this street is about twice as big as everyone else's cause they had to keep the houses a certain distance from the creek. Well... kids walk down the creek to get from one place to another, which is fine. But the other day, a group of kids riding their bikes decided they didn't want to ride all the way to the end of the creek... so they cut up through our property to get to the street. Now... my parents always taught me to respect other people's property... which to me means, you shouldn't ride your bike across someone else's lawn. Were the kids not taught that this was wrong? Or do they just not listen to their parents? I went out there and asked them not to ride their bikes across my lawn again, and they looked at me like I was crazy!
Yet another example that I posted about a few months ago... the neighbor was having a deck built, and they needed to get the wood to the back yard of course. So instead of driving around to the end of the street, and driving back behind the houses in the brush and weeds to get to the back yard... they just drove the huge flatbed truck across my lawn into the neighbor's backyard. What is wrong with these people? What makes them think it's perfectly fine to drive across MY lawn to get where they want to be?
There must be some parents who have, and who are failing to instill morals in their children. This complete lack of respect for other people and their property is getting out of hand. On a more extreme end, you have people killing eachother over minor disagreements/arguments. On a more innocent end, you have people returning products that they damaged by using it in a way the manufacturer didn't intend. Granted, the latter is not as severe... but is it any less wrong?
Feel free to post your feelings on what I've said... if you disagree, please keep it civil.
