The Williams sisters happened......

(if that doesn't make sense, Serena beat her in the U.S. Open for her first slam in 97 and ever since then, she hasn't been the same)

I think it was her that messed her ankle up pretty bad and has been out with injuries every since. Something that keeps happening to her.

so since she cannot win anymore grand slam titles, she quit???

Basically.....She has been injured (left ankle), but she is definately not strong enough to beat....Carpiati, Davenport, Venus Williams, Serena Williams. In addition, she just doesn't have the drive to compete like she once did. The game is too fast and too strong for her.

She is suing Tacchini for making crappy tennis shoes that ruined her joints and therefore, ended her career.

Yeah, I don't think she can compete with the amazons like the Williams sisters, Davenport, etc. Hingis isn't a very large girl.

not entirely true. Justine Henin is not so strong as the Williams sisters but has beat them both.

Hingis is out because of a serious ankle injury because of bad shoes

Yeah, she is suing Addidas over these shoes that ruined her feet, but those feet carried her to the bank just fine when she was cashing those Addidas endorsement checks.

She pretty much retired like others have stated. Injuries got to her.

She did not have to game to beat the Williams sisters anyways. They are too strong, fast and powerful for the Hingis game. Martina was a great player but the Williams sisters seem to own woman's tennis right now. Hopefully Justine Henin can continue to have success beating them so it will be more enjoyable. I never like seeing the same two people in finals, year after year.

Particularly when the finals where the Williams compete against each other are generally crappy and error-laden. I actually stopped watching this year's women's Wimbledon final because it was like watching two unseeded players.

Hingis' retirement is going to be a real loss for women's tennis. The depth of her game (particularly when contrasted against the power players) made for some great spectator matches.
