Not exactly "nowadays", but since you mentioned the 80's and earlier, King's X did a lot of this throughout their entire career.

Yeah, music goes through cycles. Although some are stranger than others (rap, ska, trance) but, I look at poor current music as an opportunity to enjoy another type of awesome music from the past.

Nice, I like that sentiment.

It's still around. It's still used heavily in country-folk kind of stuff. It even creeps into the occasional hit. Some examples (from big bands to small acts).

I also don't quite get all the complaints about modern music. Recording equipment has gotten good enough that anyone get a pretty good recording from their own house or a small studio. The result is that you can find music for just about any taste, as long as you're willing to dig a little.

True, this is harmonizing and it is somewhat "popular."

You have to admit, though, it's nowhere near as popular as it was prior to the 90s. I was actually searching Youtube looking for a band on the radio that harmonizes, I couldn't find any. Although I'm not as familiar with music today as I once was.

But not much on the radio anymore unless you listen to a station that plays older music.

It's called boy bands. You're just not looking in the right place, they are everywhere.
