there are still a few of them around in LA....but what happened? not enough money to keep their restaurants open?

i don't understand how they can close so many locations and still keep a few around...how long has it been, a decade?

i'd figure they'd either completely close, or start expanding again.

David Lynch stopped getting his chocolate shake for lunch there every day.

The decline was then, sadly, inevitable.

but sir the big boy has never really left us.. they have been serving us quality food at reasonable prices for years.

With that been said I love the Bob's Big Boy on Glenoaks (Glendale) for their sunday morning breakfast (week day is good too).. its an all you can eat.

The Burbank one on Riverside drive is a fav.. but tehy stopped making it 24hrs.. waaah!

Sometimes if i want a quick bite i go to the eagle rock mall and get some there.. cheap and good..

It varies by location. Pennsyvania and on east is Bob's, Ohio, west of it, and some south is Frisch's, and I haven't been too far west so I don't know where others are.

My local Bob's Big Boy (Alhambra, CA) was bought over by some Asian... now it's some noodle house. It's kinda funny because they kept that infamous Big Boy statue outside for YEARS until they took it down.

Yeah, its now "Noodle Planet". Funny thing is, when I first ate there, I said: "This looks like a Bob's Big Boy. "

Big Boy chain declares Chapter 11 bankruptcy
  • "Mr. Liggett is very committed to this sales process," Michaels said. "We want everyone to understand that Big Boy Restaurants worldwide will be fully operational during the reorganization."

Liggett is the founder and chairman of Liggett Broadcast Group, which merged earlier this year with Citadel Communications Co.

The company was founded by Fred, Louis and John Elias, who ran small restaurants in the Detroit area after World War II. They later offered to franchise the family style restaurant to Bob Wian, who founded Bob's Big Boy in California.
How much would a CEO be worth, who could turn that institution around?

There's a Bob's Big Boy not even ten minutes away from me here in Ohio. It would suck if they closed. Such good stuff there, not healthy good (mostly) but tasty good.

Here in Michigan I'm pretty sure it's Elias Brother's Big Boy. There's a few of them around here.

I used to love going to Big Boy when we lived down in Anchorage, I'm not sure they're still around though. If one opened up in Fairbanks, that would kick arse. :)

I got my first job at Bobs Big Boy. It paid more than the fast food joints and I got decent meals during my breaks.

...The year is 2021...

...All 'Big Boys' have been acquired by a mysterious corporate entity known only as "The Chum Bucket"...

...The nation has become an acrid hellscape of burning cars and despair...

..."Whhhhhhhy?!?", I scream at a frightened child on the street...

...In the distance? Ominous kazoos...
