sigh* too many cartoons nowadays being replaced with anime.
Even toons originally made in english have anime touch to them. ex. Kappa mikey, martin mistery, totally spy (eww?) only one I enjoyed for some time was teen titans LOL (18 and watching toons...yeah...sad day indeed. oh well :p)

I am not bashing anime either its just the majority they actually license over here isnt that great ex. Bobobo bo bobobo WTF? and wth was that Milk chan thing that came out for a month or something? and then they give the characters crappy voices and change the dialogue. Only good ones come out on adult swim. EXCEPT FOR MILK CHAN! LOL

You just listed the only three old Nickelodeon shows that were 100% garbage. None of those are any better than the cartoons they show now.

You didn't like Rocko? There is something wrong with you. The other two I'll give you but Rocko ruled.

The cartoons I really liked were X-men and Spider-man, and Tom and Jerry. Fortunately, I was able to "obtain" from the Internet the entire X-men series to relive the glory days, without the commercials.

Other shows I also saw were TMNT, Swat Kats, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Biker Mice from Mars, Double Dragon, etc. Saturday Mornings were awesome.

Doug was very boring and the other two used mostly grade school humor for entertainment.

Yeah, but that doesn't make them great. Tom & Jerry is a great cartoon that grade schoolers can watch and enjoy, but it's funny in ways other than being obscene. Same goes for Batman or Inspector Gadget, both awesome cartoons.

Grade school humor? The first episode included a segment titled "Who gives a buck?" and another season 1 episode had Rocko working a phone sex line. Sure it wasn't an adult show, but it wasn't just grade school humor.

I remember as a child, watching Cartoon Network & Nickelodeon which had many good shows, including Are you afraid of the dark, Pete & Pete, Superfriends, Tom & Jerry, Gotham Knight Batman, Superman, Pirates of the Dark Water, and nowadays when I get a glimpse of Cartoon Network as my brother is watching, I see shows like Ed, Edd, & Eddie & that crappy new version of Yu-Gi Oh...

WTF happened to all the good cartoon shows? Why were they cancelled?..

We all grew up! :(

I remember growing up there was no such thing as cartoon network or Nickelodeon or cable for that matter. Cartoons were all on early saturday and you got up a 6am so you can watch them. Grab a bowl of cereal and you wouldnt budge till 10am from that spot ;)

I missed the original Robotech series that was first aired in the US in the mid 80s. What a show. I used to set my alarm clock at 6 a.m. in summer break just to catch that show.

Why don't we have tons of cartoon shows for kids anymore?

I'm sure there are still some, but he reason why they aren't as popular seems pretty obvious: the Internet and Console Gaming systems.

whoa there.. them there's fighting words? Ren & Stimpy? You gotta be kidding me - the first season and a half are still some of the best stuff of its type out there. Sure the later stuff was lousy, but you can't beat those early shows...

I think Nickelodeon has a channel you can get that plays some of those shows, but its just not the same.

I love Doug and Rocko! My parents have the channel where the old shows are all on and last time I was home I was watching Rocko's Modern Life with my little brother and sister who were captivated by it. What a great show.

I'm seeing a generation gap here :D

For me, back then it was Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, Ghostbusters, TMNT, and many more.
Now, it's basically Justice League.

I like anime, but I miss the good ol American cartoons.

Profanity and sexuality? Sounds pretty grade school level to me.

Maybe I only watched the later episodes, but I only remember jokes about bodily functions on that show.

Wacky Races - recently rented it. The gags may get predictable, but it's still pretty funny :p

Love a lot of the new stuff too - Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, JL, JL:U, as well as the Jap stuff (Cowboy Bebop, Champloo, Gundam, etc.)

You guys all realize that "Chuck Norris - Karate Kommandos" is on every weekday at 5:30 on Cartoon Network, right?

That's all the cartoons you need.
