It had something the competition didn't have - a very effective kind of FSAA you could use on any 3D API without compatibility problems.
Really? I thought 3dfx never supported OpenGL. So it could only be used on a single non-proprietary 3D API then. Anyway, let dead dogs lie is what I say.
