It is odd for a major online store, let alone THE major online store, to be completely down for this long. You'd assume they have redundancy on top of redundancy to prevent a complete outage like this from happening for more than a moment. Wonder what's up.

If their load balancers/global content site selectors were hosed you could get a HTTP 503 like what we're seeing.

Amazon's homepage returned the message "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable" against a blank white screen. No reason for the service interruption was listed, and company representatives were not available for immediate comment. Shares of Amazon were down 2.7% to $82.25 in early afternoon trading

I doubt it, that deal they did for 1000(?) super-cheap XBOX's last year was huge, it was all over digg, forums etc... Today would be for a limited edition console which costs more than usual IIRC. I can't see the demand being equal.

It went down minutes after the bundle went up.
