What handguns do you recommend?

I go to the shooting range a lot and would rent firearms there. I was wondering what guns you guys think I should try out. I like the Baby Desert Eagle and the Glock 19C myself. What are your recommendations?

The Baby Desert Eagle is actually a decent gun. It is in reality a CZ75 clone.

Excellent automatics: Glock, CZ75, SIG, FN Browning, HK USP, or one of the reputable 1911 makers.

Try out ALL of them. Why not? Nothing to loose except a few hours and a few bucks!

When you are ready to buy, that is when you have to be a lot more picky.

I went to a range once, and it was a flat feee for an hour of rentals, and you could shoot any/all of them. The only restriction was that you could only shoot one at a time.

Anything by Kimber would be a nice treat.
Overpriced, especially for the first-time gun owner. If you're looking at a 1911, go with Springfield-Armory. 45ACP can be expensive to shoot if you don't reload you own, however.

If you're considering Glocks, also take a look at the Springfield Armory XDs. I may be buying one in 45ACP if I can get one cheap enough from my FFL.

Ideally you'll shoot whatever you buy before you buy it. If your range rents a wide variety of guns, this is good, because you can try out several kinds and see what you like.

He asked which guns he should try out. You don't think a Kimber would be a good gun to try out?
