I love my CZ-85 (9mm), but it's hard to beat Glocks as a first / utility pistol. Glocks are easy to take care of, they're reliable, accurate, and they only do one thing when you pull the trigger. The downside is, they'll never be considered as sexy as another pistol.
For a first pistol, you should stick with a 9mm or a 45 (ACP or GAP). Since it's your first pistol, you'd might want to stay with ACP since you'll have to shoot a lot to get used to it, and GAP ammo is still cheaper.
Do not, DO NOT consider a power weapon like a .50 for your first weapon. You really need to get used to a normal weapon before you "graduate."
A real benefit of a Glock or a CZ is they're not expensive at all. No reason to waste a lot on your first weapon.
