What got you addicted to the internet?

So what was it that got you interested in the internet?

For me at first it was AOL chat rooms. This was back in 98 or 99 when they were just getting popular. I'd spend hours upon hours in our local chat.

Then I found consumptionjunction. This was before it turned into a porn site. It used to have funny/weird/awesome pics and videos. The guys who ran it would post anything and not care about who got mad. Kinda sad though..last I checked the site was nothing like that.

So what got you interested in the intarwebs?

(yes I know this is three threads in one day. I had a bit too much caffeine today)

Mostly the Yahoo! chatrooms. I also spent countless nights looking for lyrics to dozens of songs which I loved, but which I never understood.

Information.
If I want/need to know something, I can have the answer in seconds.
Oh and naked pics of RossMAN.

Information, I have an insatiable thirst, and the endless possibilities created by the Internet and tech. I actually don't 'get' virtual social networking, too impersonal, and mostly find porn dehumanizing and desensitizing.

You had me at "virtual social networking" but lost me at "porn".

Usenet and warez channels on IRC. 95ish.

28.8 ftw.

lol yeah i spent far to much time on Warez channels. well usually #oldwarez. and trolling channels like #daddydaughtersex #lolita etc. it was fun to go get pictures off ogrish.com and retitle them something like hot12 and set up a DCC bot...at least until i got banned.

A general desire for information. I first really started in 1st grade looking up pictures of license plates (my opa collects them and I wanted to as well) so I'd go through license plate collector portals and download all the images I could. When Diablo came out I then downloaded tons of animated gifs of moving enemies and blood drips and pentagrams and stuff, also portal-whoring. Loved Geocities/Lycos/Angelfire/etc sites and their image-heavy layouts.

I didn't get into discussion stuff until about 4th grade, and was pretty light about it then, mostly posting on guestbooks of Digimon fansites and stuff. Around the same time I took my first step into piracy with SNES ROMs. However, I still did things aside from the internet back then, like bike riding and exploration and building hideouts and stuff. It was expulsion from school in 6th grade that drove me into a full-time e-life, although tbh I had already gotten big into Rotten and Ogrish and shit even before expulsion. Since then, it's been the internet community that provided my only outlet for social interaction.

EDIT: Oh yeah, IRC was good fun too. Started that a tiny bit later, more around 7th grade though. I've tried getting back into chatrooms but my mental health has decayed since then and I've forgotten how to use them.
