yeah... htere was a huge boom sound and a roar/rumbling sound that shook my house for a good 15~20 seconds straight. the rumbling sound came back for a little while and now its silent.

i live in the middle of the woods
a friend who lives about 5 miles away called me to ask me if i heard that

wtf was it?!!!!! it is raining here, but neither of us saw lightening, and i've never heard thunder roll for that long and then come back (it was a continuous rumble).

WTFBBQ!!!!!!!!

Lightning comes before thunder......remember how much slower sound is sompared to light.

What area do you live, if you don't mind us asking? LOL, heh, maybe somethin will be on the news. 🙂
Maybe somebody was midnite fishin with some dynamite hooks. Propane tank?? 😵

oh yeah and i'm in a suburb of washington dc.

great falls, va

its not a quake (i'm used to those from living in tokyo) and yeah... thunder doesn't roll that long and then come back.

it's freaky!!!

*edit*its like a consistent volume, not like a boom and rumble/echo die down sound of thunder. its a like a RRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRrRRRRRR steady sound.

I bet it's a Sonic Boom.

i suppose it could be. i've never heard one before, but with andrews air force base not too far away i suppose it is reasonable.

then again the airspace over great falls is restricted, so if it was a plane or something of the sort it would have to be military.

hmmmm eeeeeeeeeeeeeeenteresting, while being scary as poo at the same time.

Sonic booms dont even last that long, I dont think. I remember hearing them when I was a kid. Is 15-20 seconds actual or expression? Thats actually a long time....hold your breath for that long.

I see you are in Illinois, don't fret....Oprah probably farted.

If Oprah really farted, countries would have pushed their buttons by now and we'd all have felt something.
