what generation raised you?

The parents born in the early 50s, early babyboomers.

At my high school, the only cliche form of dress was preppy clothing like Abercrome and Fitch and AE, which was just starting to become popular at that time. My school was located in a very wealthy but mostly urban Democrat area, so maybe I wasn't exposed to the suburban teenager dress code at the time.

That would probably be it. :-/ Go to a normal public school, without wealth.

I'm not trying to put you on the spot or make fun of you, but kids in my day would never use a user name with "boy" on the end, and I see this a lot with your generation. THere are many bands who do this to "Fallout Boy" etc.

When I think of a "boy" I think of some kid like 8 years old flying his kite. Sorry.

So.. this thread is now less about teenagers today, and more about you being pretty fucking odd.

This thread is more of a complaint about dressing behavior of kits today. It seems like every teenage kid out there is dress like some goth with neon pink accents and or guys with 1970s haircuts. A few more I can think of:

-Guys wearing girl's pants.
-Dark hair some with white accents.
-Skateboard clothes.
-I saw a kid the other night with....get this, a neon green belt. wtf?

I'm only 25 and when I was in high school no one dressed like this nor had the stupid 70s haircuts.

My parents generation were the babyboomers, what generation is parenting these kids who dress like this? Is the people born in the late 60s?

I feel old complaining about teenagers, but they dress like buffoons.

WHAT?!?!?!?!?

Jesus Christ Grandpa, we're at war and in a recession. You're old and no one the fuck cares.

Get them off your lawn!

/thread

yeah that one made me laugh too. Neon green belt? Tha's just INSANE.Where would even get something of the sort!?

Wasn;t neon shit all the rage in the 80's? The photos of all the boy bands back then seems to suggest it.

The 80's are making a comeback!

Actually the 80s are very much making a come back. Look at skaters and punk-ish kids, They are al wearing 80s style clothing now (pastels, and such). Its all cyclical.

I love this OP. 25, 7 years removed from HS and he's acting like he's old man smithers from across the street bitching about those kids and their leather jackets, flat-tops and peny loafers.

Big difference from maybe a flannel shirt or a flat top than a freakin neon green belt with girls pants......all this on a boy. I can handle unique styles, but man my point is this set of teens are really out there.

They're just trying to be shockingly different, and as a result, end up being the same. This is the tail end of a generation that was actually mildly interesting. Now it's just regurgitated crap, all the same shit, over and over.

Pay them no mind.

But the same thing as been said over and over for every generation. Thats the point.

Coming from the boy that complains about 1600 SQF being too small for three people.

Do you remember Boy George by any chance?

lol, I'm 39 and grew up in the 70s and 80s. First I dealt with bell bottoms, then the japanese fad. The neon green belt isn't all that bad in that light. 🙂

I do not remember him no, I'm not that old but I do know who he is and his style. However he was a homosexual transvestite, most teenagers today are not.

I dont have as much of problem who dress ska, emo, scene, or the like as much as i have a problem with young girls dressing like outright sluts. If I have a daughter one day those teenage years are going to be hell because of the difference in ideals.

As for the style of dress you describe, doesn't bother me much, its kind of grown on me just a little. I dont dress like that myself, though i dabbled with it. Got a fake nose and lip ring along with a Naruto headband, backwards black cap, black Death Note shirt, neon belt, nike shoes, and some old work jeans i ripped at the knees and spent a day out in the big city of Tallahassee, Florida (I'm a country kid that lives 20 miles from the nearest small city).

Shit, got 6 numbers from some really hot college girls and overall had a great time. It may be odd, but it gets attention. I dont have a problem with it though. I have better things to do than get bent out of shape over how someone i dont even care about dresses.

Most teenagers today are also not in Boyz II Men or the Backstreet Boys. Or the Beastie Boys. Or Pet Shop Boys or the Beach Boys. You get the idea.

I'm only slightly younger than you, and the only style choice you mention that was truly uncommon when I was in highschool would be the white streaks in dark hair... because back then it was usually green streaks. Or more rarely someone would dye all of their hair some odd color, a la Gwen Stefani of No Doubt or anyone in Green Day.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if all of the things you mention described someone in Green Day at some point in the late 90s/early "aughts".

Maybe you should just turn down your hearing aid and take a nap. That sarsaparilla really angries up the blood.

'I luv theese country' I catered a wedding tonight. The mother of the bride wore a designer gown and flip flops. One of the guests wore hot pants.

these damn kids today and their long hair, blue jeans with wide legs, and shirts with all those crazy colors! /shakes cane

I went to private/prep school so I can't really judge from experience, but I'm only 2 years older than the OP, drive past a school every day and I don't think the kids look significantly different than my sister and her friends did when they were in high school other than maybe that baggy jeans have been replaced by skinny jeans and 60's inspirations have given way to 70's porno chic, at least when it comes to hair and facial hair styles, but that's more among the hipsters in their young 20's.

What...? There are five people here and three dogs. (This is less than 1600SQFT though probably?) Our "new" house will only be 1974SQFT. 🙁 I wish it was 2400, like some homes we looked at. (Which had great space)
