(besides getting drunk of course)

Say you go out on the weekends regularly and have a few or more.
What do you suppose would be the safest alcoholic drink?

I heard most red wine contains phosphates which is not good, but I have no idea why.

Gin supposedly contains an ingredient which has its own problems, again not sure.

Sweet mixed drinks high in sugar will give you an ugly hangover.

Beer gets blamed (maybe a bad rap) for the infamous beer-gut, probably because to take in the same amount of alcohol as other drinks you might be getting more calories as well.

My instincts are telling me maybe a good Vodka possibly a Vodka/Tonic would be the safest route, but I have nothing to base that assumption on.

from what ive heard, red wine is the only drink that researchers say can be good for you. that is in moderation of course, but none of the other beverages can claim that. gin and tonics can help prevent nighttime cramps (its the quinine in the tonic), and if you are having "lady" problems gin may also be of some help - Link. on the same page as gin + tonic, you can mix in healthy things like juices and stuff to offset the negatives. first things that come to mind are bloody marys (veggies) and white russians (calcium). heck, you may even be able to get some of your required vitamins and minerals! but be sure to drink lots of water bc alcohol can dehydrate you, a common cause for headaches.

Although I don't know what the answer is.. DO NOT DRINK SCHNAAP'S.

Peppermint (or any flavor, really) Schnaap's is great fun... until you wake up someplace strange the next day and have NO IDEA what happened or how you got there.

I've quite literally had experiences where one miniute I was fine and playing drinking games, the next I was in bed with a girl (thankfully, it was my girlfriend).

Isn't Bud Light 3.2 beer? Which would just make you have to drink twice as many?

Yeah, I'm fairly certain the answer isn't peppermint shnaaps.

Bud light has a normal % of alcohol in it. As for wine being for wussies, it sure isnt. Most wine contains around 12% of alcohol. So 12 ounces of wine will get you more drunk than 12 ounces of brew.

I'd also hafta say Tequila.. If you want to just get drunk quick and feel fine the next day, drink an 8-12oz. cup of tequila then drink pepsis for the rest of the night.

you're clear liquors are going to do you the best, with vodka being the purest of those, i.e. having the fewest additives in it.

rum would be up there as one of the worst, because it has a huge amount of additives and ingredients in it that are not the best thing in the world for you.

As for the safest drink? Well if you plan on getting drunk, dont worry about the little things in the drink. You only have to worry about the drink if its moonshine or Absinthe.

least side effects? hey, it's all the same...too many shots (straight or mixed) of either vodka, gin, or tequila will have a (somewhat) similar effect. whether it's making the worst-looking girl in the bar look as good as the prom queen or taking your car through a mailbox in your frontyard.

if you go to bar, or are trying to be a social drinker at parties, my advice would be to stay the hell away from liquor (which is usually overpriced at the bar anyway). especially if you have any kind of concern about hangovers, but i've also noticed that hard drinks bring out the worst side in certain people. it seems to me it's easier for some to lose complete control when they're drinking liquor.

i would say stick to drinking beer, if you're concerned about the "beer-gut" thing drink light beer. if you need a mixed drink, limit yourself to one. you'll save yourself a lot of $$$ too.

Absinthe is banned in almost every country in the world, except a handful including Spain, Denmark and Portugal. It is actually controlled as a food, not a drug. Absinthe contains herb extract from wormwood which has numerous psychoactive chemicals in it, thujone being the main one. Aside from being 65-85% alcohol, absinthe has psychoactive properties such as hallucinogins. Absinthe is EXTREMELY bitter and is almost always drunk diluted with water and sugar.

A friend brought back some absinthe from Germany last winter and shared with me and some others. Not really sure how that went.

In case you get the wrong idea about the post. I'm not trying to not get drunk. I'm a seasoned drinker who is asking because I'm starting to concern myself with all the side-effects of being a seasoned drinker.

All alcohol has bad things for you, one way or another. If you want to drink with the least amount of side effects, don't mix you alcohol (have a few beers, then a glass of win, etc) and don't drink more than you should (that does take time to learn). If you want to drink something that gives you a buzz, without all the smell, etc, Vodka and tonic water is a good combo -- its just watered down vodka.
