What gaming podcasts do you guys like?

Inspired by modeps' thread about the Short Attention Gamer podcast ceasing to be, and also inspired by my recent addiction to gaming podcasts, I wanted to know what you guys were listening to out there.

Since Microsoft released the update for the Zune and integrated podcast support, I've listened to nothing but gaming podcasts over the past 2 weeks. There are already plenty of podcasts to subscribe to in the marketplace, and I know there are probably tons more out there. So instead of subscribing to a bunch and wasting my time listening, I figured everyone could give their recommendations.

So far, I've only listened to some of the major players, but the ones I like are:
  • IGN Podcasts - I actually enjoy all 3 of their separate podcasts for the 3 current-gen consoles.
    • The "Wii-k In Review" is pretty good for simple, calm chat about current games and events regarding the Wii.
    • "Three Red Lights" I've only listened to once thus far, but I had no qualms about it.
    • "Podcast Beyond" is the PS3 podcast, and these guys are high-energy, sometimes stupid but often humorous. They talk loud and often, but it's still enjoyable.
  • Gamestop's "The Hotspot" - I'm actually enjoying this one pretty well, more than I thought it would. So far they seem to share and talk about gaming news instead of just pure thoughts on current games, which I like. The viewers calls at the end of every show is pretty annoying, because they broadcast the most stupid people who call in. They should broadcast those who talk in a normal voice and ask normal questions, not the crap they do now.
  • Major Nelson - I started out listening to a bunch of his one-on-one interviews for the "Live is 5ive" week, and these were awesome interviews, loved them every one. Lots of good insight and info on how Live began and the decision process behind a lot of things about the system. His weekly broadcasts also seem to have a lot of great info, stuff you don't normally read on gaming sites and such.
Ones I'm on the fence about:
  • Played - Sorry warcrow, but I'm still trying to decide if I like your podcast yet. I've listened to the last 3 episodes, and it hasn't struck me quite yet. I think they are too long for my tastes (I saw your recent post in your forums about trimming it down considerably, which I think is a good idea). It also seems that the girl never talks much (I'd like to hear more from her) and that this Chris guy talks down to you a LOT (which I don't care for).
  • EGM Live* - I've only listened to one episode of this, but didn't care for the format. I've decided to listen to a couple more before deciding if I hate it or like it.
Ones I haven't liked:
  • Achievement Junkie - This was one of those that I didn't know anything about, but just wanted to try something different. This was towards the top of the list of most downloaded in the gaming section on Zune, so I tried it out. Didn't care for it at all. I gave it about 20 minutes, and all these two did was talk about crap in their personal lives and nothing about gaming. I promptly unsubscribed. Maybe someone else has had good experience with this?

Right now I only listen to major nelson. I've been meaning to look into others but stil lhaven't yet. This thread may help me do that.

I tried listening to the EGM Live one, I think. I didn't like it at ALL. In comparison to Major Nelson's I thought it was extremely boring. Plus they spent most of the time talking about the NFL.

Good post BV. I really haven't found too many that I like listening to... every now and again I go back and listen to Major Nelson, but most of the time I dont care enough about the interview he's doing.

CAGcast
1up yours
1up
EGM live
OXM (if interview is good)
Major Nelson (if interview is good)
3 red lights

There are others that i listen to when I have nothing else to listen to at work but they aren't all that great

Joystiq
gamertag radio
Xbox 360 fanboy
Starpower

Best non gaming podcast:

Keith and the Girl

Our last few shows have gotten a little long, yes. It's not really the intended direction I wanted to take things, but it just happened since we had so much ground to cover and recording schedules are sometimes complicated (getting 3 schedules to sync up is dificult sometimes). So, yes, January we're going to try something new with more bit-sized episodes me thinks. 🙂 We do get input from some listeners who actually like the long format, but I think going back to shorter shows will make everyone (including us!) a little happier.

In Elizabeth's defense, she often gets cut off by Chris or me because we get so damn excited sometimes--and this has been brought to my attention more and more lately. I'll talk with Chris about this since I'm sure he hasnt noticed it like me. We dont do it intentionally, we just have a lot to say and our show premis is sort of based of a cafe or coffee table discussion where it's kind of an open forum. Also, in the last episode (it was actually one of my least favorite episodes we've ever recorded) she had to leave after the first news segment--she had something she had to take care of.

As far as Chris talking down to me, I sort of see where one would get that impression--but I honestly do not thing that this is the case (at least it's not how I took it at all). Chris and I are definitely different personalities and he, some times, can act like an android--emotionless and curt, you know? So, it might seem like he's talking down to me or Elizabeth, but I dont think it's his real intention. When we disagree one something, especially something controversial, he will dig and dig until he finds his answer.

But, I really do appreciate your constructive input. Seriously, it means a lot to me that you broke things down intead of just saying something a long the lines of, "dude....you podcsat sucks".

It's such a fun little hobby to have and I want to continue doing it as long as it's fun and people are enjoying it. So, I think it's important to listen to our listeners (and prospective listeners 😉 ). When we originally started doing this over a year ago (omg it's been that long?!) I really, truely expected to have 20-30 people listening at the most--the majority of those people being family members too (and being happy with it, btw)! 😛 But the fact that we have more than that amazes me. People have emailed me telling me that they practically spit their coffee out on their drive to work from laughing with us, or that they've purchased the original Metroid after our chatter about the game and totally loving it--is just the best thing ever.

But I digress--sorry--didnt mean to go off there. I figured it was just a good time to show my appreciation for it all.

Thanks again.

My favorite podcast isn't the "best" one, but it is usually quite hilarious - and that's the 3 Red Lights podcast via IGN.

The "best" podcast is probably the CAGcast.

I also listen to these on a regular basis:
Player One Podcast
1 Up Yours
EGM Live
The Sports Game Anomaly
Weekly Geek
Major Nelson
Game Scoop
The Fanboys
Podtoid

And if I get really bored at work I delve into these subpar ones:
All Games Interactive
Angry Gamer
Evil Avatar Radio
The Joystiq podcast
Gamers With Jobs Conference Call

I have a lot of free time at work.

Not a problem. I'm still subscribed, and I'm still looking forward to the next podcast, so you must be doing something right.

The only podcast I listen to regularly is PlayerOne Podcast, partly because most of the others are blocked at my workplace, and partly because I've grown to like the hosts.

Like:
1 Up Yours (my favorite)
GFW Radio
Gamespot's Hotspot minus the phone calls.

One's I kind of like:
Played - When it first started it was better just because it seemed more energetic and there was better participation from each host. Then after a while Elizabeth basically stopped talking and the podcast would sometimes go off topic too long. I remember a segment where everyone was talking about not playing games or something to that effect. It also seems like when an argument of points occurs everyone is walking on eggshells when trying to voice their opinion which makes the discussion entirely dull in some respects.

EGM Live - Sometimes its good and other times its just meh. Can't really explain why it might just be me.

Don't like:

Pc gamer podcast - the british guy is really mean lol. "So what is this your podcast now?"

Best non gaming:

BJ Shea's morning experience 99.9 KISW the rock.

HotSpot used to be the greatest back in the day with Carrie, Rich and Jeff, but they're all gone so its my number 2 now. Biggest fav is the 1Up Yours podcast.
