I havn't played warhammer 40k, but I hear good things about it, what makes it so good?

It's challenging, sharp graphics and badass animations eg: dreadnoughts crushing orks in their massive fists then chucking the corpse across the battlefield, it's fast paced in mp, strategies are varied due to many units and upgrades. Oh and the sound is good too. War sounds like war

I hate to put it like this but is it better than Starcraft? How good is its "staying power"?

Man I'm just itching for a good RTS, I've played all the big ones except Dawn of War, just because every single one I've played wasn't as fun to play as StarCraft, it's sad when you think of it, I'm going to download the demo for DOW, noe though.

The supposedly computer-controlled truck you're supposed to be racing against in the game never actually moves. It's right there next to you at the beginning of a race, but it has no purpose in the game. This is to say, actually, that none of the game's races have a purpose because there's no competition and no time limit. You win every single time. So unless you especially like seeing a winning-screen over and over again that reads "You're Winner!", there is absolutely no point in playing Big Rigs.

Hahaha! That big rigs racing review is awesome.

Chronicles of Riddick

The only fps thats gotten my attention for longer than 5 hours in one sitting in single player mode.

Try Mafia, another classic that few have heard of. Its a GTA-type game only MUCH better.

As far as I'm concerned, all the games that have been mentioned in this thread so far are mostly crap...IMO of course. Well with the exception of Call of Duty 2, thats been a fun ride for me.

All the other games are merely used to "justify" that ultra expensive video card thats in everyone's rig...

No, get Doom 3. Especially if you didn't play 1 or 2. The graphics and sound are amazing and assuming you didn't play Doom, you won't find it to be the "rehash" many others thought it was. You can probably find it for prices now that are decent anyway.

GTA: San Andreas doesn't have the best graphics around, but they upgraded them a bit for the port and a high end PC can take advantage of this - and it's a fun, fun game.

In reference to Doom3/Quake4. I wouldn't take anyone's advice who outright tells you to avoid a grade A game regardless of whether they like it or not. It may not be the first one you play, you should probably seek a demo for it, but you should try it in some form or another and form your own opinion.

doom 1 and 2 were better than 3, gameplay-wise. they were just fun. doom 3 was just a way to show off graphics

Why play the best games, skip them and buy Doom 3 and Q4! Dumb.

Play the top rated FPS titles, then if you are bored and need more, play the D3/Q4 rehashes.

Also I forgot Riddick, BF2 (if you have the time to play and get good) and WoW.

HL2 is definitely worth it.
I'd advise against Doom 3, Quake 4 is a better purchase IMO.

yes, its that popular. is it over 5 million players yet?
i keep thinking of rejoining. its been about 6 months since i quit, but i just have the feeling that i am gonna end up quitting again because of the same problems. because those problems still have to be fixed.
