What game should I give to my girlfriend?

I was thinking about getting a game for my gf. But I don't really know which one. It would be quite easy if MY gf like CS ;), but that's just not happening. The only games she's played and enjoyed are:

- The Sims (although she dropped it like a BOMB when she realised that nothing really HAPPENED)
- Domination (a freeware Risk clone)
- Solitaire... (not sure about the "enjoyed" part on this one...)

So, anybody got any ideas? Oh, BTW - she's got a Toshiba laptop (550 celeron, 64MB, 8MB graphics, 6GB HD). Would be nice if the game would run on that system.

thx

a game?, she likes Solitaire and you want to give her a game. She is a woman and women tend to like Solitaire and thats just about it.

Try Civ3, who knows, she might like it.

I think that sums it up for maybe 95% of women out there. I tried to get my g/f into UT, but it didn't turn out too well. She told me that she understood why I would like it, but that it sort of gave her motion sickness.

- believe me: I totally agree, but she sits there for HOURS and PLAYS Solitaire! As if it really was a game. And it's driving me up the wall. So I guess this as much about keeping me sane. I can't cope with those cards anymore:|

Civ3 - that might actually be a nice idea. It's intelligent, and that would be greatly appreciated from my point of view...

And Minendo:

Snood is cool, but it's more irritating than Solitaire. Been there, done that.

Thx anyway:)

Try strategy/fun games.

I like playing

- Caesar III, Pharaoh, Zeus <-- by Sierra. Gorgeous graphics, easy to play

- Diablo II <-- Also easy to play, but there's a risk here

- Worms <-- She can play with her friends

how about Monopoly Tycoon? she might like that and it's fun enough that you could play also.

My gf was addicted to RollerCoaster Tycoon for the longest time (and there was peace in the house). She's also been addicted to the freeware games at www.popcap.com Small and mind numbing games, I'm sensing a trend.

Yup, seems like it. Although Rollercoaster Tycoon would be nice...

The ladies really like those old sierra games, (kings quest, hero's quest, etc.) Too bad those types of games are no longer that readily available with all the fps-type games.

My GF and I often play those DreamCatcher Interactive games. "The Legend Of Lotus Spring" was pretty interesting. It's targeted towards women, but I thought it was neat, too. They have a lot of other Myst-ish adventure games available and they're all pretty cheap.

We've also played The Longest Journey....

I tried to get her into Worms, but she's WAAAAY too competitive and got too mad b/c she was playing with me and another friend who are pretty adept at Worms but she doesn't know how to play....but if I tell her what to do, then she feels I might as well play for her, but if I don't tell her what to do, she gets mad b/c she doesn't know what to do.
So I recommend against Worms :)

Civ3 is nice =) though it would run slow on that laptop, if it will run at all. it has a fixed resolution (boo)

simcity is a good one.

maybe some puzzle games or an rpg.

Rollercoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon. I bought both of these games for my wife and she really enjoys them.

Hmm, Mrs. Skoorb has also logged wicked hours into Solitaire. Maybe I should get her zoo tycoon :)

Virtual Valerie! Fun for the whole family!

I think graphical adventures are good for girls. Get games like Grim Fandango or the Monkey Island series.

Sim games are good too.

I had fun with Roller Coaster Tycoon

How about
Curse of Monkey Island?

I dont know what Part their up to. I think 4, I recall 3 was a really good one.
I didnt like the moving interface in part 4. The 3d made the game annoying. But thats just me!

The only recent games that Mrs. Skoorb likes now are ones like donald duck for the PS2, and recently we've been playing jak and daxter. In her own words "Girls just aren't good at these sorts of games" when we get to tricky parts that I have to do. I've been playing Mario since the Atari 2600 though so I can jump right in and go crazy. But I think Guybrush is right - graphical adventures are good with nice colors ;)

That's a broad generalization.

I like, Halflife, Starcraft, AOE, Diablo (I & II), Red Faction, Baldurs Gate (I & II), Warcraft II, and many many more that I could list, but won't.

Simulations would work, like some said, RCT would do fine. Or maybe you can give her another one of those "tycoon" series games, Sim City 3000, an expansion for The Sims, or Worms World Party :) I wouldn't recommend a strategy game though...she may not be that interested.

Ahhhh for me it's easy... kinda

FFX -> she loves Fantasy stuff

BUT: she has no PS2, she has a PS1 though.... I just cart my PS2 over to her every now and then :)

On the PC she avoids solitaire like the plague (yes she is a woman, I am VERY sure of that) but has taken a liking to Max Payne (of all things) and Baldours Gate.
