What game on laptop?

What game does everyone play on their laptop? I'm personally into FPS, but it's out of the questions on laptop.

I found this South Park solitare game that keeps me smiling when I'm supposed to be in meetings, etc. on the laptop taking notes. But it's hardly an intensive FPS game. It seems that unless you have an oppressively expensive laptop with decent proc and video card, most gaming is just out of the question. I remember reading a story on Sharky's site about some new Dells they had that didn't do too shabby though...

What about the ATI Rage Mobility 128 (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1198). Sure it's no Geforce, but it's capable of some fairly reasonable Quake 3 time demo scores:

Pentium 500 - Demo001 - 640x480x16: 61.3FPS
Pentium 500 - Demo001 - 640x480x32: 44.4FPS
Pentium 500 - Demo001 - 800x600x16: 43.3FPS

These seem pretty good for a laptop 🙂 Plus, there's supposed to be new faster, prettier 'mobile cards' coming out in the near future, so LapTop Quake 3 is far from out of the question 😉

Starcraft, Half life (with detail settings downed usualy), AOE2, and Diablo (haven't tried Diablo2 on a laptop yet, just the original).

The only problem with fps games on laptops is the screen. Kinda blurs around in games like that.

Not too much of a problem with the newer screens though

If you are into FPS, old games like Duke Nukem 3D and Wolfenstein are great! Also I have a NES emulator (the best console ever) on my laptop. With ROMS so small, you can practically fit every NES game there is on your hard drive!

Munchausen, that's good information to know - thanks for the scoop. (Interesting user name by the way - any reference to Munchausen by Proxy, Rudolph Raspe's storybook character, or Baron Von Munchausen?)

Anyhow, from the myriad titles on this thread, it looks like quite a bit can run pretty well on a laptop. Guess I need be less timid about gaming on it!

paldo - and emulator lets you play consoles on your computer. There are SNES ones, NES ones, Atari ones, Playstation ones, arcade ones, ones for every system imaginable. Goto http://www.vintagegaming.com for information about the emulators and to download them.

ROMs are the games themselves. Their a bit harder to find, but not impossible. Just do searches for nes roms or genesis roms in search engines and you will find plenty.

RTS, Adventure games. The sims would work if you have a fast laptop, that is a superb game.

Also Grim Fandango. This is one of the best games I've ever played, it should be fine on a p166 or better. and it really sucks that something as bad a Daikatana will probably sell more copies than Grim ever will

NES emulator. That is about all my Dell P133 can run. It is mainly due to its "simulated" 1MB Neomagic video chip. It can only do 800X600 in 256 colors and the screen (active matrix 🙂 ) looks bad in 640X480. If it had a faster video chip and a CD-ROM, it could run StarCraft or something like that.
