I bought an xBox last 3 weeks ago. After returning it a couple of times because of hardware failure, I'm happy. I've got Halo, what more could you want?

Uh, latest NPD reports show November console sales for the GC and Xbox at dead even (468,000 for both). I don't know what kind of misinformation you guys are spreading.

What misinformation are you reading?

According to the LA Times, Credit Suisse First Boston is reporting that Sony's Playstation 2 console is fending off all contenders to the throne of videogame console dominance. According to CSFB's estimates, in the sales period from November 11th thru December 8th, Sony sold 962,000 consoles. Microsoft's Xbox came in second, with 934,000 consoles sold. The sales for Nintendo's Gamecube weren't commented on in the report. It is mentioned that Sony's lead is attributable to their ability to meet consumer demand.

And more from NPD:

November, no matter what console videogame fans might own, was a huge month. With the release of amazing titles such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Splinter Cell and Metroid Prime, it was one that more than a few will remember. Today, Microsoft announced that it wasn?t just big on the game?s side of things, as Xbox enjoyed its finest month for hardware during November according to NPD. Partly fueled by the launch of Xbox Live, Xbox was able to outsell competitor GameCube for the seventh month in a row with the Xbox Holiday bundle (Xbox, Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future) outselling GameCube and the Super Mario Sunshine bundle by 131 percent. Moreover, Microsoft reports that Xbox sold 34 percent more titles than GameCube since release, with titles such as Splinter Cell, a game with a quarter of a million units sold worldwide, leading the way.
The system comparison continued as Microsoft added that Xbox Live was able to sell 86 percent higher than the PlayStation 2 Network Adapters. This comes on top of sales of Xbox Live titles such as MechAssault, Tom Clancy?s Ghost Recon and Unreal Championship selling in excess of 300,00 units in North America during November. The aforementioned Xbox Live titles attached at over 80 percent to the Xbox Live Starter Kit.

Stepping away from North America, Microsoft reported a few noteworthy details on other regions of the world. For starters, Microsoft continues, Xbox is the second top selling console in Europe according to ChartTrack and GFK; with the system outselling GameCube by two to one. In Australia Microsoft reports that Xbox and PlayStation 2?s market gap is only 4 percent, with the Xbox market share doubling to 46 percent over the past eight weeks. In Asia Microsoft reported that the Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan went well; with over 5,000 people lined up during the system?s launch.

Lastly, in Mexico, Microsoft reported that the October launch went well. According to the report issued today, the system is the most widely available next-generation console in the country.

I am sure the PS2 will outsell the Xbox and Gamecube combined times 3. The Playstation has so much more name notability for quality in recent years than either of the other two. Of course, they may not be the only one now but people are just going to buy the PS because of the name and the huge library of garbage. Xbox 2 should sell a lot better if it launches side by side with the PS3.

Xbox wins this area hands-down over its competition.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the following games:

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Soul Calibur II (oh man oh man OH MAN!)
CS: Condition Zero
Perfect Dark Zero
Ninja Gaiden
Starcraft: Ghost

and, of course...
Halo 2 :D
How could you forget Midtown Madness 3? Part one was a lot better than 2 but part three will have some major improvements over both of them since it is in the hands of a well respected development team. Crimson Skies and Midtown Madness are both scheduled for early March.

The GC must have been selling fairly slowly considering Nintendo issued a $25 off coupon a few weeks back. I doubt they would do that unless they were getting a bit desparate.

Computer w/Broadband + Gamecube is all I need. Buying a PS2 or XBox would be overkill on the same genres in my book...

Hell CompUSA is basically selling PS2 for $150. but you have to Buy the new x-men game for $50 to get it at that price.

PS2 is going to kick everyones ass for the forseeable future. When people think console, they think playstation. My father calls my gamecube a playstation. My gfs father calls her gamecube a playstation. My brother wouldnt even consider buying anything but a playstation 2, mostly because he doesnt know whats out there. Basically unless you read gaming mags, playstation is for you and you are barely away two other systems exist.

The only people holding onto the cube are the young ones, parents buying it for their young ones, party gamers and old school nintendo fans.

Personally, gamecube is where its at, and though its not selling as well as the xbox or ps2, I'm pretty sure nintendo is still turning a decent profit on it. Sales will pick up when bigger name games come out, and I'll buy them for as long as they make them.

PS2 has online play as well and the network adapters are sold out in my area and have been staying that way. It seems if the PS2 continues sales domination this Christmas then GameCube and XBox sharing many similarities with N64 and Saturn from last round.

That's hard to say. A few years ago, Nintendo was synonymous with console and Playstation did not exist. Before that, Atari. Change is continuous in this corner of the market, and with Microsoft's combined resources (funding, network, software & hardware experience, game development, anti competitive practices) I would not be at all surprised to see the X-box line pull ahead in the next year due to its multiplayer facets. I'm content with a computer personaly (my favorite kinds of games just suck with console controllers) but the X-box is narrowing the gap.

I would guess is PS2-Xbox-GC. The main reason because GC doesn't have any online capabilities. Also, EGM's top 10 selling games always have about 8 PS2 games.

I think the results would be different depending on the source of the information.

I really don't see why people keep buying a PS2. I think it's a great system, yes, but the graphics are outdated and it's way too expensive.

How would anybody know? It's not like we're employees w/ this secret information and have the inside scoop.

The current rumor has it at the upcoming E3 expo.

The PS2 and the XBOX are both ~$199.
You make it sound as if it were hundreds more than the other consoles.

My sister just picked up a Gamecube w/Mario Sunshine last week.
Looks like the same old Mario 64 with a new water shooter... cute but not innovative enough.

I've had a PS2 for over a year now but it's collecting dust - but it may pick up some usage from Kingdom Hearts :p
Looks like the Gamecube is going to follow that trend, along with the NES, SNES, PSX, N64, GB, GBA (no Sega systems).

Just gimme CS and WC3 for PC :D

I think it only matters peripherally which console sells best this Xmas. The real question is, "Which company is making the most profit on sales of Titles?"

After all, I read Microsoft is definitely losing money on each Xbox sold, and hopes to recoup the loss on games. I assume that Sony and Nintendo do the same.

Therefore, the higher the ratio of games sold per console, the more profit a company makes. For example, if Joe buys an Xbox and Halo and gives them to Laura, who doesn't really like videogames, then Microsoft makes $10 off one title, and loses $50 on the console. Contrast that with Joe giving Mary an Xbox, and Mary happens to love videogames and buys a dozen more games for it. Microsoft makes a lot of money in this situation.

Anyways, I hope all three consoles survive and thrive. Competition is good. I hope the after-Christmas sales are sweeeet!

Untrue. Nintendo Gamecube has both modem and broadband network adapters currently available.

Now, the only game which is enabled for use with either of them is Phantasy Star Online I/II, and the company has basically said that it doesn't consider online gaming to be part of its core strategy in the immediate future, but not commiting to online capabilities is not the same as not having them.

1. PS2 - Unbeatable Brand name.
2. XBOX - Great deal for a great system with a ton of potential
3. Gamecube - Good system just missing something to put itself up there with the other 2.

For me the one that won this year was a Gamecube. I saw Metroid Prime in the store and bought it, a memory card, system, and also Eternal Darkness right then and there. I'll be looking for Zelda soon too, and I think I'll rent Mario Sunshine too.
