Not that I'm an expert, but have you tried adding more fans to your case?

What's ET?

Enemy Territory

a free and fully downloadable RTCW mod (so even a copy of RTCW isnt needed) with objective based maps and class play with skill upgrades

lots of fun, damned good free game. rocket launchers, machine guns, flamethrowers, mortars, mines, rifle grenades, artillery strikes, air raids, medics, smoke grenades, sniper rifles...loads of fun

Without your link to Enemy Territory, I wouldn't have known what RTCW stood for!!!!

It's a laptop, and it has two fans one the back that are constantly on when I play the game. I may disconnect it from the docking station though since it's blocking the exhaust a bit.

Must be a sweet laptop to play those demanding games!
Just out of curiosity, did you have an Amiga computer? If so, what was your fav game for it? I remember Defender of the Crown and Boulder Dash as being pretty good....

Are these improvements in graphics and gameplay? The first expansion didn't seem too good - you were able to bring your character over from the original game and if you did that, the expansion was ridicuously easy. Best if you started with a new character and I didn't want to spend that amount of time re-building one back up.

Well, I'm just starting out in HotU, but I'll note a few things I've noticed:

-Now when you sleep, you may be awakened and attacked by enemies (never happened in SOU or earlier)
-You can now have two henchmen, previously only one was allowed.
-You have better control over henchmen (SOU had a bug where sometimes henchmen became hostile and wouldn't rejoin you, sometimes you couldn't get into their inventory and equip them etc.)

Of course, new tile sets, monsters and spells etc. Not a HUGE radical change. I'm sure there are things I haven't noticed since I'm not a big D&D geek, but more of a casual player.

gamespy (no linkage, im out the door in a moment) gave ET best multiplayer game of the year award or some such, saying it had more servers (or was it players?) than even counter strike and was great fun, only that they wish there were more official maps. (i do too, but for clan play, its quite enough to keep on top of the curent 6, no amatuer maps are that good)

i'm playing:

Call of Duty - man, this game is SO MUCH harder than Medal of Honor: AA! I totally underestimated the value of my teammates and always went ahead guns blazing. i'm on the Soviet part a la Enemy at the Gates

Star Wars: KOTOR - man this game is awesome.

Beyond Good & Evil - VERY nice game. i love the graphics and the gameplay is a nice mix of different styles.

I got No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.s Way for Christmas, and man! I just blasted through that game like I haven't done in a long time. It has all the gameplay of Half-Life (I am *not* exaggerating) and a skill system that is reminescent of Deus Ex, but easier since everything you upgrade is automatically in use (hence, no pressing F6 etc. to use your upgraded skills, they just work).

It's obviously derivative of James Bond and Austin Powers, but to great effect. The settings are just delicious. There's a boss fight in a trailer park during a tornado! There's a sneak and peak in a Japanese villa patrolled by ninja-ettes. Unforgettable Siberian espionage, and of course an underwater evil headquarters to attack. Throw in India and an underground cave complex and what more could you need?

How about an awesome soundtrack of neo-sixties psychadelia? Done. Believable atmospheric sound effects to go with each setting? You bet. Unique weapons? How about shurikens, silenced submachine guns, radar tracking darts to stick to your enemies, and a crossbow with regular, flame and poison bolts? But don't worry Counter Strike fans. There's usually an AK-47 lying around somewhere.

Yeah, I should be paid to promote this game, but I'm not. Do yourself a favor, and grab this one. It's $20 everywhere I look.

[edit]And I forgot to mention.... online play inlcuding a co-op mode![edit]

very fun game. the co-op is great but too short at only 5 missions. the "driving" mission was the funniest mission i think i've ever played in a FPS. i finished the single player game over a year ago but still play the co-op with my son.

as for recently released games: played max payne2 and i enjoyed it (never played the first one), but found it pretty short. then played Call of Duty and was impressed but, again, found it short. then played KOTOR and fell in love with gaming all over again. then played Deus Ex 2 and... well... after KOTOR, anything else seems average.

that being said, i'm back to playing Civilization 3 again. keep telling myself "one more turn"..... then, 4 hours later, at 3am, "time to wipe out the Germans".
