What FTP Server software do you run?

I'm wanting to try this out and am looking for suggestions. My OS is Win2K.
What server software works best with Win2k?

I would use Win2K's built in FTP Server, but I've also heard that Serv-U works well. Of course the end-all solution is to use ProFTPd on a FreeBSD Box.

Win2K Pro does come with an FTP server. Just install IIS (Internet Information Services). Also has a web server and a really basic email server.

anyone know how to make serv-u (or any other app for that matter) run as a service in win2kpro? is there a command line that will allow an executable to be loaded as a service, or some utility to do this? i know there was an app called "srvany" that came with the nt resource kit, but i think it was only for NT3.5 and 4... anything for 2k?

Im still working with a old warftp client, This client is downloadeble fror free! and still works just fine on my win2k machine!!

I would try MS FTP server first if I were you. It is already available in Win2K Pro.

If you don;t like it or you want a leech capable FTP server, use WarFTP or ServU FTP.

Ok. I'd love to use the IIS FTP Server that's included with IIS, but it doesn't do what i need it to do.
I want to allow the clients to see other directories other than what's just in the home dir. Example: CD-ROM. If you know this can be done please let me know. I've been asking around and know one can figure it out. Please help

If I'm not mistaken, you can just share out the directory or drive, then create a Virtual Directory in IIS to point to the share you want people to have access to.

I run a smalltime Serv-U ftp. Never had any problems. I've only run it up to 10 users at a time though due to bandwidth issues, but if your only planning on 25< users at a time then i'd go with Serv-U.

i've tried every 3rd party FTP server that i have come across, and i believe that G6 FTP Server is the best of the lot. i strongly recommend that anyone who regularly runs an FTP to check this out.

I'm currently running my ftp server 24/7 using G6. I once tried Serv-U and thought it was the best until someone tell me to switch to G6 and have been using it ever since.

What about NTFS permissions when you are using a third party FTP product ? Is that considered system or can you give specific permissions to that program ?
Isn't that a big security hazard ?
