What FSB/cpu multi + Ram Multi would you guys run?

Q6600 (266 x 9 = 2.4ghz @ stock)
GSkill DDR2 1000 5-5-5-15

here are my options:
1)
CPU: 333 x 9 = 3.0ghz
RAM: 333 x 3 = 1000mhz

2)
CPU: 400 x 8 = 3.2ghz
RAM: 400 x 2.5 = 1000mhz

INSERT YOUR OPINION HERE
CPU: ___ x _ = _.__ghz
RAM: ___ x _ = 1000mhz

 
What chipset (or mobo)?

975X - 1:1 or 4:5
P965 and P35 - 1:1 or 2:3
X38 and X48 - 1:1, 4:5, or 5:6
NForce - Linked/Sync (1:1)

would be my preferences.

If you have two options, and they involve a discrepancy in CPU clockspeeds then you can be assured the faster system will be the one with the higher CPU clockspeed.

3 vs. 3.2GHz looks like a tiny delta but that that 3.2GHz CPU is clocked 6.67% faster than the 3GHz CPU.

You will be hard-pressed to find any ram combination that will increase your system's performance as much as a CPU clocked 6.7% higher.

FWIW I run my Mushkin redlines DDR2-1000 at DDR2-734 because I run my Q6600 at 9x367 (3.3GHz) and my ram at 1:1 with tight timings. I've tried the higher multiplier and as Graysky is noting in his threads the real-world performance impact is negligable but the power consumption and heat goes up markedly (and the Vdimm).
 
i know my Q6600's clock speed is ilmited by temp around 3.55ghz...

would u guys run:
CPU: 378 x 9 (= 3.4ghz) @ ~1.34v
RAM: 378 x 2.5 (= 945mhz) 5-5-5-15 tRFC:54 @ 2.0v?

Yes, by at least 10:1, often much more if the computations stay in cache.

I'd work backwards from 3.2 Ghz, list all the ways of achieving exactly that cpu clock speed, and start trying them.

Have you tried overclocking your memory? My 800 Mhz 4-4-4-15 OCZ Reaper memory has no trouble at 1066 Mhz 5-5-5-18, this opens up more options.

+1, especially for gaming.

Running 1:1 at 8 x 450FSB for 3.6Ghz and memory timings at 5-4-4-15 on a P35 chipset.

3.55?

You always work on CPU first...RAM speed should always be secondary to that.

Once you determine what speed you want to run the CPU at, then you start worrying about the RAM.

Since you're saying 3.55 GHz is max-ish, how about something around 3.5 GHz.
3.5 GHz = 9x389 4:5 = DDR2-973.

I think your mobo's next ratios is 2:3, & that RAM isn't going to do that.
