The brain can distinguish up to around 60 frames a second. That's why a monitor with a refresh rate of 60 seems kind of flickery. But by the time you get to around 75, the brain is physically incapable of noticing any difference.

Even if you could tell the difference, it wouldn't matter because most people's monitors refresh at 75Hz or less. That means anything over 75 is wasted, your monitor can't even show it. If people can run a game at 100 fps, they should turn up the resoltion so they are actaully getting a real benifit from their card's speed instead of it being wasted.

i really don't think that it looks "smooth" until it gets over 60fps, now truthfully i don't notice much more of a difference between 75-100. other than it "feels" smoother at 100, so that is where i try to keep it.

they say humans cant distinguish above 30fps, but a lot have people have tried to prove otherwise, in my own expirience, i cant really tell once it hits 45, but i know a few guys who say they can tell up to 60, but i really doubt anyone needs anything above 80, by then theres nobody who can distinguish.

they say humans cant distinguish above 30fps,

That would be the idiots who don't have a clue what they are on about.
