What format do you use on your MEDIA Player?

I always use MP3, but I hear that WMA is smaller and sounds about the same since it is just an MP3 player and not a professional stereo.

I am using earbuds, so quality doesn't have to be that good...

What KBPS is the best sound to size ratio?

I am mainly interested in what quality setting you guys set your WMAs to...

I have a 256mb MP3 player.

I use MP3 because my iPod doesn't play WMA (no surprise there!). I used WMA when I had a Creative Nomad II MG, but was nonplussed when all my licenses expired somehow and the player appeared to be dead. I actually had Amex Blue send me a check for it before I figured out what was going on (I called them back and destroyed the check). Damn you Microsoft!!!

WTH did you destroy the cheque???

mp3s. I started ripping my cds to mp3 a long time ago, and I'm too lazy to change that now.

Plus, with an ipod, I don't have too much choice anyway.

WMA at most bitrates sounds terribly "hollow" to me on my 4.1 system (ok mids, but bad bass and even worse treble). I figure if I'm going to encode at high bitrates anyway that I may as well stick with MP3.
It's been a while since I've used AAC, but I remember liking it.

LAME MP3 encoder, either the alt-preset standard or the alt-preset extreme. Alt-preset insane for archiving. If I do CBR encoding, I will use alt-preset CBR at 192k and up.

For WMA, I use at least 128k CBR, more likely I will use 160k CBR. For VBR, I use 135k-215k.

OGG. I rip variable, equivalent to a 6-7 which translates to variable 192 for the rest of you. Speaking of ogg's, I just bought 2 more 250gb drives this morning at Fry's for my ogg server. 😎 Gotta love having too much music to fit on the 2 250's I already had.
